We had a family lunch in the middle of August. They were running the "eat out to help out" Government Scheme which knocked £40 off the bill. I was a bit surprised that they didn't have a lunch menu, we had to order off the main menu.
We had a Sashimi Combo Platter, plus some Maki Rolls (California and Firecracker), plus a main course each, and a round of drinks. Before the eat-out discount it was £117 (which isn't a cheap lunch for four). Net of discount it was £77 which was okay.
Really liked the display cooking at the rear of the restaurant.
The Sashimi combo was so fresh, and the Firecracker Maki Rolls were awesome. A bit disappointed that they didn't do any deep fried Maki - the California roll was okay.
For mains; Three of the four had Teppanyaki Beef which was awesome, my seafood combo (three prawns, three pieces of salmon and a scallop cut into three pieces) with noodles was fab (although nearly £18 in itself).
I thoroughly enjoyed the food - which was fab. A pricey lunch at full price though.
Would go back but, in the absence of a lunch menu, would only go back in the evening.

We came here last minute and our waitress Rosha was very friendly and even though they were fully booked let us sit outside. It’s a really nice spot on Cardiff bay as well.
As we were waiting to order food the restaurant got very busy and we thought the staff handled it really well, even when wearing a mask :)
The food was amazing and some of the best Japanese cuisine i’ve ever tasted. Would highly recommend any of the Maki Rolls and defiantly get the chicken gyoza’s and the ramen, we got the duck one and it tasted phenomenal.
We used the eat out to help out scheme, so cost us £10 each. Couldn’t fault the food or restaurant at all.

Enjoyed a wonderful meal here prior to seeing a show at the nearby Millennium Centre - both the show and the meal were a delight. Amazing and authentic Japanese food which was clearly fresh and prepared to order. Definitely a restaurant I would recommend over a "chain" restaurant and very modestly priced!!

Disappointing and underwhelming visit here, despite being one of the best rated Japanese and sushi restaurants in Cardiff.
Lunch menu not available at lunch time, despite being prominently displayed in the window, just the more expensive a la carte even though those same things are also on the a la carte menu. Nice little scam there.
Oddly no drinks order, just straight to food.
Lacking any attention to what leaves the kitchen, let alone detail...
Edamame with no chilli and the "whole jumbo soft shell crab with wasabi mayo" which was just some legs and a chilli mayo. I've no idea which menu the chef was working to but apparently that of another restaurant. Watery, tasteless sauce with tempura.
The food was perfectly adequate, far from mind blowing and unfortunately not reflective of the other more positive reviews upon which we based our decision to visit.
Service at least more attentive than the chef although someone else's food was offered to our table even though restaurant was not at all busy.
I can't think of any reason to return here sadly.

We checked on booking that gluten-free options would be available and were reassured there were options and menus could be adjusted to cater for us.
Untrue.
On the night. The response of staff was firstly not to understand what gluten free meant, and then to say cooking could not be altered.
So very few options from menu were available to us.
Very poor response in this day and age, though the rice noodles with prawns and a few pieces of sweet potato were okay.

EXCELLENT!
Without a doubt, our favorite restaurant in Cardiff. Yakitori has the BEST selection of Japanese food, the sushi is incredible (highly recommend the duck maki rolls) and the Beef Teriyaki noodles are to die for!
The service is outstanding, the staff are so friendly and so welcoming.
We were recommended to go about a year ago and can honestly say we have been at least once a month since.
Highly, highly recommend.

The food was actually not too bad, but the waiting staff seemed very inexperienced and out of their depth and the kitchen cooked food without taking into consideration the order of how the food would arrive.
Two out of three of the company had their starters and main courses served, before the third member had received their starter.
The waiter served the wine without giving the opportunity to nose, taste or even look at the bottle.
The food was okay, not great by any stretch of the imagination.
Would I return?
I doubt it!!!
Overall disappointing

We saw this restaurant on a previous trip to Mermaid Quay and we thought that we should one day book a table for the family and that day was yesterday.
We thought the staff were friendly and attentive, we were served fairly quickly and the food was fresh.
We bought a bit of everything so we tried the soft shell crab, crispy parcels, Sushi, Ramen and rice dishes.
We all thought the food was great and tasty, so I will definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone that's looking for authentic Japanese food.

We have visited Yakitori #1 a number of times over the past few years and the food is always brilliant. We tend to order a variety of items such as gyozas, skewers, sushi and noodles. Every dish is always perfect. The staff are friendly and hard-working, I would highly recommend and encourage everyone to visit.

We walked in without a reservation and were seated immediately- I had the warm sake which was very comforting on a blustery evening. We had a nigiri platter to start- lovely fresh fish and tasty rice- then I had a ramen bowl and my boyfriend had the katsu curry. The curry was a little light on the sauce but he was offered more sauce spontaneously by a waiter, which he declined. Ramen was delicious. I had the chocolate orange cake to finish which was amazing, while my boyfriend had the mango mochi which were also very tasty. Excellent experience all round.

Love going here. Restaurant is clean and Covid safe. They take your temperature and insist on you using the hand gel before you go in. Restaurant is not too busy either. Food is superb. Fresh sushi and sashimi choices. Good selection of hot drinks including English style tea and coffee. The trick with the menu is not to order too much although it’s v tempting when you have such a varied choice. Good vegetarian choices too and their miso soup is lovely. Worthwhile being patient for fabulous food. Will be back as soon as Covid -19 is done.

Absolutely loved it. Food was so tasty and fresh. We had lots of the small plates and a main, which was very reasonable considering the amount of food we ordered! Friendly and good service too. Thoroughly enjoyed, would definitely recommend and will be returning!

The restaurant is simply decorated, the staff are polite and the menu has plenty to choose from. It is reasonably priced too. Everything we ordered was really nice, especially the tempura prawn maki rolls and the sticky rice with chicken. Lovely plum wine to compliment. The only small thing was a desert menu was not offered and our drink order was only half taken. Then chocolate orange cake dessert was lovely too. Service was swift and efficient and, surprisingly, service charge was not added to the bill automatically. Great visit.

We came here on Sunday 10th October at 12.00... All staff were absolutely efficient and attentive. We had Karaage Chicken Chahun, Karrage Chicken Yakisoba both on Special Lunch Menu. We also had Veg Tempura and a Chicken Skewer. It was
34.20 £ for all. They were definitely yummy, big portions with reasonable prices tho. Highly recommended this cozy Japanese restaurant. Real hidden gem in Cardiff Bay.

The service already started off strong with quick ordering and delivery. The servers were friendly and professional and helpful when needed advice on food/drinks. The sushi is so flavourful and filling, as was the cha han. I ordered a ramen that unfortunately was not my favourite (was delicious, just not my personal cup of tea), and the waiter noticed something was wrong straight away. They quickly asked if they could fix it, free of charge and delivered a spectacular substitute incredibly quickly. Could not be happier with service and 5 starts doesn’t do this place justice.
