Went here for the first time last night, It was spur of the moment and with no booking but we were warmly welcomed and quickly seated despite the restaurant looking quite busy. We ordered from the al la carte menu. I rarely look at prices as I order what I want to eat. This being the case I ordered asparagus... More

A few drinks after a business meeting starting in the Head of Steam, and 7 of us needed somewhere to eat. HoS does do food, but I wanted to show them something different. Broad Chare was fully reserved, so went next door one more to Caffe Vivo (same owners apparently). No problem. Food was generally good Italian fare (I don't... More

I dined alone from then set price early menu option. I don't eat meat during Lent so was limited to the vegetarian options. The pasta was hot but rather bland and insipid. The cous cous was similarly unexciting and the side potatoes I'd ordered were forgotten. Service was OK, but I felt the staff were more interested in their customer... More

Went with wife and son based upon recommendation and bitterly disappointed at the service (language barrier and poor explanation) with fundamental inaccuracies in advice given on food menu. Food was very poor quality (surprised), overcooked and had no resemblance to description. Outrageous price for lack lustre food offer. £ 100 for 3 covers with soft drinks

An informal restaurant with excellent Italian influenced food. Grilled vegetable starter was a delicious and generous collection of courgette, aubergines, fennel and cheese. Two of us shared lamb shoulder which was huge rich and tender accompanied by four side dishes including spinach and rosemary sautéed potatoes. At about £35 for two (not each!), fantastic value. The wine list is extensive... More

Went here for dinner after a long day in the office with two colleagues. I had tried a number of places prior to get a table but other than after 9pm everywhere was busy. My colleague got this booking and it was very quiet when we went it. The staff were attentive and professional. They had a set fixed price... More

Excellent food and service. Enjoyed an early evening meal before a concert and it was prepared and presented with care. The staff were lovely and we'll be back.

We have eaten at Caffe Vivo before so decided to go there for a friend's birthday. We ate from the early evening fixed price menu where the choice is not large. The birthday girl chose the pheasant which is often difficult to get right and this time was slightly overcooked. The highlights were the puddings which were excellent. The restaurant... More

My son and I had a flying visit to Newcastle. Stumbled upon Cafe Vivo (after a few cocktails nearby). Service was excellent and friendly and the restaurant had a lovely authentic Italian atmosphere. Went for the Set Meal, which was good value. Starters lovely. Duck pasta delicious and the Beef tender - but sadly the Polenta had turned into rubber... More

Tried the restaurant last night as part of a present. I had a lasagne whilst the other two in the party had the lamb. The lasagne was dried out as if it had been kept warm for far to long and we certainly not fresh. It lacked taste and was poorly structured. The lamb looked nicer but was quite fatty... More
