This place has a very varied past! Some years ago I came here and asked for an omelette, on the menu, simple you might think? No, 'Could i please have it with cheese AND mushrooms?' No, comes the reply they are frozen and you get what is packed in them. Frozen omelettes eh? This was a low point, recently it... More

Visited here while staying in the area and what a charming traditional pub. Owned by the community this is really is a quintessentially English pub, real ale straight from the barrel, all customers chatting to one another a real local. The ale is kept beautifully and the staff we met were very friendly and knowledgable about what they were serving.... More

We and other members of our family used to reguarly visit this lovely old pub after going for a walk & then getting a beer & a sandwich or a snack, also going there for their excellent fish & chips and burgers, today their were only 9 people in the whole pub at 1.15pm and were told that the only... I've been putting off writing this review as the food, staff and atmosphere used to be great at this pub. Unfortunately there seems to have been a lot of changes and none for the better. After going back about 5 times in the hope it would improve since Christmas we will NOT be going again. The food and staff are... More

On vacation from Canada and spent four days at Bawdsey Hall (that's an excellent B & B April 4-7/17) discovering this pub within a few miles we found it to be excellent in atmosphere, food and great staff (especially the young lady who could match and beat me at my home game of silly wit!) One point that was most... More

Had lunch here today & was very disappointed.2 of us had jacket potatoes which were slightly overpriced for the size of the potato,1 had omelette & chips which was OK --I chose a tuna & sweetcorn sandwich which came with chips & coleslaw £7.50 so slightly pricey for a sandwich.Very disappointed when it arrived--no sweetcorn & a very thin layer... This has got to be the place to get the best fish and chips in the UK. Food is absolutely excellent, service just as good, and no rip off prices. The best scallops I've ever had - simple, well presented and that sweet taste ( they chef knows what he does ) Just give it a go if you are... More

My partner & I were in Shottisham for just 2 nights arriving Sunday. After the drive & frustrated with getting a fire stabilised we went to The Sorrel Horse for some dinner. The greet was warm & friendly but with the bad news of no food on a Sunday evening. After a fruitless internet search for a local store we... More

Went here for Saturday lunch after a walk with the dog around Sutton Heath. Dog friendly, even had a treat from the chef. The lady working the bar and serving the food was very happy and even though it got busy (a party of 12 ramblers came in), service was quick, efficient and with a smile. Chef came out to... More

Reputedly a Smugglers Inn dating back to the 15th century, The Sorrel Horse is the quintessential English country pub with tap drawn cask ales, a thatched roof, tiled floors and an original bar billiards table, nestled in a picturesque rural Suffolk village. Given our fantastic location on the Bawdsey Peninsula in glorious countryside, the pub is especially attractive to walkers, cyclists and the horse fraternity. Superb walks, open rolling countryside and the quiet and genteel nature of the area make the village a popular destination for visitors. With two bars you've a choice of both a restaurant or traditional bar for your food and drinks. The restaurant has a large wood burner, with the bar having a lovely open fire.
