Being busy on Valentines Day my fiancé and I decided to have dinner a couple of days after the event mainly as we had heard good reviews of the restaurant and also because we have booked a room here for the night of our wedding so wanted to see what the service was like. We were seated promptly and the... More

Visited The Angel for afternoon tea for the first time and it was very pleasant. A cold winters day outside , but we had a lovely table by a log fire. The food was very nice , so much we couldn't eat it all , but the friendly waitress provided us with a box to take surplus cakes home. One... More

Our second visit to the Angel. The food is amazing. Great staff and a very interesting cellar bar. The Angel will become one of our "must return to" venues. Thanks to all the staff for making us feel so welcome.

This used to be a great place to eat and drink, now it is neither. Downstairs in the wingspan bar used to be a great place for fine wine and cocktails, I think they lost the manager or one of the barman there as the drinks menu is now considerably reduced. We went in for a drink and the wine... More

Supplier took me out to lunch. Each Christmas we try a different place in town. I've not been to the Angel for months so we gave it a go. The starter wasn't cooking, it was an assembly operation of a minute fillet of fish, bottled beetroot, jarred mayonnaise - completely tasteless. Main course steak was cooked as ordered but it... We ate at the Angel on 29th December. The food was excellent as was the service. We both opted for seafood as our main course

We dined just before Christmas. We could not get parked and were eventually helped by an excellent and friendly valet parker from the hotel. The decor is really lovely but I'm afraid the service was patchy and our food was just average. Overall we were quite disappointed and I won't be in a hurry to return. The staff were friendly... Mixed emotions about this place. The decor isn't all that special, it isn't cosy, it isn't romantic or intimate, it isn't oldie worldie... I'ts just sort of dingy modern. The menu didn't impress either. Mostly fish expect for Polenta and steak. We ended up having a steak and pan fried cod. The steak to be fair was BEAUTIFUL, one of... More

Having moved to Bury St Edmunds in the autumn of 2015 we tried to book a table in the restaurant for our joint birthdays that year to find them fully booked. This year, however, we managed to secure a booking. The internal decor and subsequent ambiance was immediately disappointing as we felt it did not do justice to the period... More

We took an old friend and colleague here for afternoon tea - she and we throughly enjoyed the experience and would be happy to recommend the venue, ambience, quality and quantity provided Excellent choice of savories and sweet - no need to book dinner!

Description
The Angel Eaterie has many admirers and is a popular destination for Suffolk locals. The art filled dining room providing a gallery for the creative talents of the kitchen. The dishes are modern and predominantly British but, the Head Chef continually surprises with a curious twist of something deliciously different. Fresh local produce is sourced from surrounding market gardeners and pheasant, venison or fish will always depend on what's available for the menu that day. The breads baked in house are testament to the care taken to achieve that special taste; dip into the olive oil then take your pick of the 30 varieties of quality wines all served by the glass and wait for further temptations. The Angel Eaterie is open all day for food & drink.
