From numerous visits to bath over many years for both of our birthdays, this was the best steak meal so far. Stunning food with excellent service from Karl in great surroundings. Thankyou to all involved, we’ll be back. 👍

Karl, the best, most efficient and good looking Waiter in town, Bath. Went with my daughter and we both ate steak perfectly cooked, Wow. I now live in London but still have never found anywhere in London with as good a steak. My daughter cooks...it just as well though, not just saying this. Karl single-handedly managed and coordinated everything, a great asset to the restaurant. Lovely people sitting next to us.More

Head across Pulteney Bridge, onto Argyle Street and then - through a quite low-key doorway - descend a staircase, minding one’s head and the “mind your horns” sign, to find an exposed stone/brick-walled room painted white… The Herd is a steak restaurant and, frankly, cooked...mine as superbly as any I can recall. I was with someone for whom steak is real favourite - and she certainly wasn’t disappointed. I used to live on the Somerset Levels and the quality of beef available there - to cook at home - was phenomenal. The Herd sources from a farm near Devizes, Wiltshire, and what arrived on the plate here was every bit as divine. I must add that the scallop starter was excellent too. The puds (crème brûlée & chocolate mousse) topped the evening off very satisfyingly. Finally, the service - from a member of staff called Karl - hit all the right notes, from humour to info on the dishes. All too soon it was time to leave by the lower door, emerging by the weir, then climbing another stone staircase back up onto Pulteney Bridge, ambling over that and along the far bank of the Avon, back to the hotel. Thanks to everyone at The Herd for an excellent evening. Really looking forward to visiting again :-)More

My wife and I had a delicious meal here last night. For some reason we found the entrance hard to find, although there was an entrance at ground level and another from the street below. I had an excellent rib eye steak which was succulent...and cooked to a pinkish perfection. My wife enjoyed a juicy grilled breast of chicken with Caesar salad and chips. To follow I had the rice pudding with vanilla and ginger ice cream. I might have preferred a slightly stronger ginger flavour but the combined effect was excellent. My wife had the sticky toffee pudding which was served with ice cream and caramel sauce topped with a beautiful sugar cage. Neither of the desserts disappointed. Service was very good and I would highly recommend this restaurantMore

I haven't been to Bath for years and based on reviews I had seen, I thought we would give The Herd Steak Restaurant a try for dinner. And it proved to be an excellent choice. The steak platter for two was very good value and...all three steaks were cooked to perfection. The meat was also of fine quality. The service was excellent and if in Bath again I wouldn't hesitate to book this restaurant again. Top marks to them!More

We chose this restaurant based on the reviews and we are so glad we did! The food was amazing, from the steak to the sides and dessert. We had the sharing platter which was cooked perfectly as ordered (perfect for two). The staff were also...friendly and welcoming. Book to avoid disappointment!More

Went for Mother’s Day lunch. Gorgeous steaks, starters and puddings. Altogether just lush. Only downside was we had a sitting for 5 and the table was not big enough. This could be easily solved though.

Visited The Herd as a surprise Birthday meal for a weekend in Bath The restaurant itself is two floors down from the main road, once you get into the restaurant it’s so lovely and inviting. Our server Josh was amazing, we aren’t massive wine drinkers...but really fancied a bottle with our lovely meal, I told Josh the flavour I was looking for and he brought over a little tasters of his recommendations, thankfully to this we brought a lovely bottle. Our food was amazing we had the sharer steak main which included 3 different cuts, the ribeye was the best I’ve eaten. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding and chocolate mousse, BEST EVER STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING IVE HAD, no raisins, lots of toffee sauce and ice cream topped off with a Birthday sing along by the staff. Every part of the experience at the herd was lovely Thank you again for making my Birthday meal one to rememberMore
