It's known that Winston Churchill, apart from winning the Second World War, was a very fine painter; what's generally less known is his prowess in the kitchen. When he inaugurated The Orangery restaurant at the end of the war, and at a loose end having...lost the general election in 1945, his menu complied with all the rationing constrictions of the time. His Fricassee of Whale (Clemmie's favourite!) became legendary, and his incorporation of Snoek into the prosaic Kedgeree was described as genius by his great friend, Albert Michelin, the doyen of French chefs and instigator of the star system of restaurant rating. But that's all history. Sadly his great restaurant, The Orangery at Blenheim, has lost it's Churchillian sparkle. The ambience is superior to it's early days - gone are the paraffin heaters and moustached waitresses wearing their sagging knitted uniforms - instead there is an atmosphere where style over substance prevails - each dish is beautifully presented, but lacks a final touch of something that one cannot put one's finger upon. Indeed, the sight of one of the waiting staff picking their nose would have had Winston chomping upon his cigar in fury. And The Orangery is expensive, out of the reach of us impoverished aristocracy. It is certainly not, as my aunt Lady Dymphna Ironthigh maintained, 'the place to be’ when visiting her relatives at Blenheim.More

The view from the restaurant is incredibly beautiful. The food is delicious and healthy. I had the salmon salad, some water and a coffee with a cake. The staff is very nice and helpful. I cannot wait for the restrictions to be lifted so I...can go again as many times as I can.More

Having visited the Orangery about a month ago and having had the most amazing experience myself and my husband along with 2 friends revisited, what a let down no longer were we meet at the door and shown our seat's it was every man for...himself, it was a lovely warm afternoon but there was no outside seating so we were stuck indoors in a lovely room but boy was it hot and stuffy. The food was still good but at that price you pay for the whole experience. The service unlike last time was indifferent and not at all welcoming. Such a shame the standard is not consistent because it is always your last visit you remember!More

Had booked for our afternoon tea in advance and was our first adventure outside of the covid 19 era. Greeted well at the desk and seated outside. However this is where the enjoyment of our day froze, basically we were ignored by the staff where...it took ages to be asked for our drink order. After waiting for a very long time for our drinks we noted that they were given to another table where the people at that table had no idea what these drinks were! instead of rectifying this mistake the drinks were taken back inside and we had to wait at least another ten minutes before we were given our drinks. By the time our afternoon teas were brought to our table our drinks were cold, the sandwiches were curled up from where they had been left in heat and the scones were very dry inside.Under no circumstances were we asked by staff if everything was OK or not!! in fact we were blanked throughout our whole experience. overall would never go there again or recommend to anyone considering that the place wasn't even busy. I wish that I had more time to give my disapproval but this is the worst place to get your afternoon tea don't waste your money.More

We booked for afternoon tea at £28 pp so we were looking forward to a delicious experience. Unfortunately this was not to be. The finger sandwich had obviously been ready to serve for some time as it was verging on stale - not a good...start. The scones had also seen better days. The cakes at the end were ok but nothing special. We have had less expensive teas which were far superior. The whole experience left us all somewhat deflated. The staff were nice however and the Orangery was a nice place to sit.More

Wanted to leave a review, as I have seen some recent negative ones and we were worried- but shouldn’t have been. Setting, service and food were all first class. We had the afternoon tea, and it was superb. We were met and greeted straight away,...had our water within 90 seconds and Remy our server was checking us and taking our order within5 minutes. We wanted to swap one of the savoury items and chose to double up on the rarebit and that was inspired cos that was genuinely one of the tastiest things I’ve recently eaten. Remy was really attentive and we truly had a fantastic afternoon. That plus the wonderful settings and views made for an excellent time. Would recommend.More

Feeling a little dissappointed with afternoon tea at Blenheim Palace ...wanted to treat my daughter but sadly it wasnt great . The orangery is a lovely setting but it was all a bit grubby chairs were stained, and tea pots n strainers had seen better...days. 5 of us squashed on what was really table for 4 . Staff friendly but not really attentive very difficult to catch their eye . Savoury selection very poor, sandwich was stale and tiny amounts. Scones lovely though All in all a poor effort. Blenheim Palace come on you can surely do betterMore

Visited the Orangery to have the Churchill Afternoon Tea with friends, having not seen them throughout lockdown. Have to say not the best afternoon tea we have had. The staff came and asked what we wanted to drink, ordered tea and a jug of water....Had to ask a number of times for the water. We finished our tea and had to ask if we were allowed another drink when we managed to catch a member of staff's eye. To be honest to say how quiet the restaurant was in relation to the amount of staff it was very poor service. The food was nice but the tea was tepid both times. This could be a really special afternoon tea but unfortunately we were left totally alone and never once asked if everything was ok,More

Hi, no need to book any type of ticket to use the restaurant. You just need to book a parking slot if you drive. I have annual pass so not sure if you need to pay parking at the palace if you just use the restaurant.
