Been here a few times now. When in oxford, if you want good local beer and pub grub, this ticks the box. Don’t expect any frills, it’s what it is meant to be, a Great old small pub, friendly and quirky.

We visited mid week on a wet December day. The staff were welcoming and there was a good selection of beers along with a mulled wine. The atmosphere was extremely quite, with no background noise and couples whispering. The food was average and not what...More

Thank you for the review. It’s true we do not have any background music which we believe is part of the charm. It may be it was just a quiet evening. I cannot comment on the food as I don’t know what you ordered. I...More

The ambiance was great, the food was good but a bit pricy. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. It’s nice to eat where Inspector Morse fancies a drink 😉More

Hello Thank you very much for your review. We may be more pricy than other outlets but in our defence we are an independent operator with a home cooked food offer with very experienced staff and trained chefs. And of course Inspector Morse did drink...More

A Good Samaritan brought my wife’s purse into the pub after she had dropped it outside earlier. Her passport, credit cards and a bunch of money were inside. I stopped into the pub on the remote off-chance it was there. Sure enough, the gentlemen behind...More

Went here with my mum for lunch as it looked like a nice quaint pub. We both ordered the toad in the hole which cost around £13 each. It arrived with two small pieces of chopped carrot and two small florets of broccoli which I...More

I go to the White Horse when I crave fish and chips or Cornish real ales. It is below ground level in a historic building, so the phone reception can be spotty; however, the food and ales more than make up for that.

A small and narrow pub located on one of Oxford’s main thoroughfares, it makes the most of it’s location with plenty of references to Inspector Morse filming on an A-board outside as well as numerous photographs of the cast on the walls inside. Staff were...More

Hello Thank you for your review. We have been the licencees here at The White Horse for over 14 years now. Because of our very diverse clientele we opted for table service which is pretty unique for a pub. So I suppose it was unusual...More
