the food in this pub is very nice. Its not huge portions but what you get is very good. A very old fashioned pub with a lot of history. The staff on duty the day we visited was very friendly and polite

This pub trades on its name and history and in my view does honour to neither. All they care about is getting the punters in and out as quickly as possible - quantity, rather than quality. The surroundings were a bit lacklustre and not exactly clean; the food wasn't as good as the average TGI Friday or even your local... More

A rather tired little pub with mediocre service. We only had a drink and didn't try the food. The big plus point has to be its history as the meeting place for the Inkings, including CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien.

Busy traditional style pub serving good priced food and a good range of beers. Two mains and two beers cost £35.

I've been here a couple of times and this was the worst so far, a shoddy sunday lunch, small macaroni cheese and it was just tired and the toilets awful. The staff were fine, it was the haunt of Tolkien and CS Lewis and was populated by old scholars and tourists. I won't be back, not terrible but it had... More

We had seen the menu in January when we popped in for a sneaky pint to warm up, and we liked the look of every dish!!!!, our sons liked everything also (11 & 13), so we made a plan to eat there tonight, and yum. My husband had a steak pie, and I had a double chicken burger and sweet... More

I only had time to pop in here for a half, but it seemed like a really nice place, with a good atmosphere and choice in music. The staff seemed very professional - friendly but not in a forced way - and had no problem giving opinions or recommendations about beer when asked. If I ever go back to Oxford... More

What a little delight this pub was! Only a 2mins walk from our hotel. We walked past it a few times before we decided to go in for a cheeky drink before our dinner. The pub has a lot of character, is full of history and is very cozy. The back part has been extended but we sat in the... More

Decided to take friends out for a drink to the eagle and child. Party of 6. They all agreed a nice place to go for a drink and we would all recommend.

A short stop while in Oxford. Good prices for the pints they offer. Several seating places. Good option for a day visit.
