Booked for Sunday lunch, table not ready on arrival so sent to bar to wait, bottle of prosecco cost £40, eventually showed to table. Starters were self service from buffet, had to ask for plates but buffet ok but all swimming in olive oil. Ordered roast beef for mains and kids wanted burger, over an hour later beef with Yorkshire... More

If available I would have rated this as overall good. This was an afternoon tea for a special occasion. This is an amazing location to visit and well designed to preserve some of the old prison design. The overall tea itself was surprisingly filling and well presented and favoured more sweet than savoury. Staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive.... More

Yes very nice food...But so different to eat in a corridor next to cells.. Great service... Lovely lady in charge....A little on the pricey sides.

It was a late table so thought it would be quiet but it was packed out, hence they were very busy. Staff very attentive but slow and got order a bit mixed up. Will still go back.

The usual Mal Sunday lunch is done well here. A good soup which you serve yourself and nice crusty bread is followed by an excellent buffet. Plenty of choice and good for vegetarians as well as carnivores. Some nice fish available too. Mains are chosen from a menu and served to the table, again a plentiful selection and should suit... We ate here twice while we were staying in the hotel. The restaurant is down in the basement, where I imagine the prisoners might have been fed. The food was perfectly enjoyable, but it did depend on who was managing the restaurant. On our second occasion it was chaotic, and service was not good at all, especially compared to the... More

We had a private dinning room for a party of 14. To be fair, the food quality wasn't bad and worthy of a good review, however every other element of the experience was awful! The service was haphazard and uncoordinated resulting in 14 meals arriving at different times. Any questions you had to go and search somebody out. The staff... More

The Malmaison Brasserie and Bar has a wonderful slightly, eerie ambiance, however the quality of service and product did not live up to the standards of the rest of the hotel. We had a Sunday night room and dinner deal which meant we had 75 pounds to use up for our meal or the unused portion would be added to... More

The brasserie itself is in the basement of an old prison so is atmospheric and fun. We were greeted by two lovely staff who made us feel right at home. Sadly from that moment on things didn't go as well. The service wasn't good in the brasserie itself; firstly there was a problem with language with some of the staff... More

My colleagues and I visited The Mal Maison Hotel Oxford whilst staying in the local area. The initial thoughts are that the hotel occupies an impressive position in the castle site, within what used to be an old prison. When arriving at the Brasserie our seats weren’t quite ready so we were asked if we wanted to have a pre-drink... More

Malmaison Brasserie in Oxford once people were plotting to get out. Now theyre paying to get in. Set in a one-time prison where bad guys were detained at Her Majs pleasure, Malmaison Brasserie (part of the supersexy, supercool Malmaison hotel group) is now dedicated to your pleasure instead. The Brasserie has its own unique atmosphere thats a bit gothic and funky, very much stylish and modern. The menu boasts simple favourites prepared with consummate skill, like signature dishes.
