This was the first time that my girlfriend has been to Piccolino but I am a returning customer. We did not book and found absolutely no issue in finding a table for 2 on a busy Friday evening. Staff always attentive (not overly), always friendly...and gave great advice on what to order! Pizza lovely just as expected - mushroom and truffle ravioli (special) was delicious and cured meat and cheese for starter was amazing. Would most definitely come back and am slightly confused with the bad reviews I have read on here... Thanks!More

Visited with family recently and the overall experience was positive. Good service, friendly staff and pleasant, reasonably-priced food. The crema Catalina for desert was especially delicious. However...we need to talk about the carbonara (excuse me while I position my soapbox): Why can Italian chain restaurants...just not get carbonara right? It honestly boggles my mind. Here are the five ingredients that should be on your plate if you order a carbonara: 1) Pasta 2) Egg 3) Guanciale 4) Pecorino cheese 5) Black pepper You don’t need ANYTHING else. Cooked skilfully and sensitively, the above five ingredients combine to create a silky, golden-yellow sauce that clings beautifully to each strand of pasta. Here's what you get if you order a carbonara at Piccolino's: 1) Pasta (obviously) 2) Egg (possibly, couldn't taste it) 3) Bacon of some sort (possibly pancetta, it was hard to tell) 4) Cheese (possibly, couldn’t taste it) 5) Cream. So much cream. 6) Parsley (ok, but why?) The entire dish was awash with thick, white cream which completely diluted any flavour of the eggs, cheese and meat, and resulted in a bland, sloppy mess. Such a shame, and completely unnecessary. Here’s my advice if you want to eat carbonara - walk 100m up the road to a wonderful delicatessen called Delilah’s Fine Foods. There you can buy a beautiful piece of guanciale for about £3.50. Take it home, find a recipe online (without cream), and you will eat the best carbonara you’ve ever had. There is NO PLACE for cream in a carbonara, and yes this is a hill I am willing to die on. As you can tell, I don’t get out much. Apart from that, Piccolino’s was lovely!More

Excellent service and food. Party of 15 plus two small children, celebrating a special occasion. Staff very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Food came out as one order so clearly a very organised kitchen. Quality and quantity very good. Highly recommended.

Popped in for a quick dinner and had a truly lovely time. All the staff are incredibly attentive and fun! (Massive shout out to Martina, Rosa and Lorenzo for taking care of me) I had the scallops for starters which were presented amazingly and tasted...great. Seafood risotto for mains which was delicious! Rosa picked me the perfect wine to combo my meal and it all went down delightfully. Service time was quick and smooth, and despite them being busy they still took the time to come over to check in and have a chat. Thank you Pico Nottingham crew. Can’t wait to be back.More

Party of 5 for early dinner. I flounced into what looked like a comforatble booth only to find hard, unpadded seating. It was like pulling teeth placing our order and zero attention - having to keep calling people back for one thing or another. The...food was forgetable and pricey for seems like reheated fodder and I just felt a certain griminess about the place. I couldn't take my eye off the dead spider clinging to the wall above head. Buck your ideas up. Nottingham is in dire need of some decent eateries.More

Went last Saturday, 4 couples . Have ate at this restaurant and never been disappointed but sadly last Saturday there were so many things that were below par , something has gone very wrong here as the service was poor and the food was very...poor. So we were sat right next to the door on the left as you enter the restaurant. The door is constantly being opened and left open making the area where we were sat very draughty and cold Next , the drinks came and the waiter struggled to cork the wine and broke it off in the bottle . He really had no idea how to go it 2 starters came the. We had to wait 20 minutes for all the other starters to come. This was very poor Then I had ordered carbonara. It came very dry with a hard boiled egg on top…novel ! Decided not to order dessert as it was not going well . Just wanted to go home . Won’t be going back for a long timeMore

Monday 20 September 2021. Came to Piccolino tonight for my daughters birthday. Not a great fan of Italian food but heyhoe I’ll give it a go. Sat at the table to be told “No lamb and no lasagne”. These would have been my 2 options....I eventually decide to have a bruschetta and a margarita pizza. Bruschetta ok but pizza not very inspiring. Thought I’d fill up with a desert and chose a pannaccota con amaretto with sour cherries and crushed amaretti biscuits. I was told that there were no cherries but would have strawberries instead. For such a highly priced restaurant to have such a limited choice was very poor. This restaurant has a high opinion of itself without any apparent foundation. John.More

Very disappointed. The restaurant was packed and very noisy, the service poor, several items on the menu were not available, and the food we had was not cooked well. The chicken pasta has very little chicken and raw vegetables in it, and not at all...nice. The seafood pasta also had only a few tiny mussels, very small clams and about 3 prawns. It is not a cheap restaurant and we didn’t enjoy our meals. The waiter was disinterested. The wine we chose was £40 and we had to pour it ourselves The toilets were not clean and no paper in any cubicle in the Ladies. This restaurant did not meet the standards I would expect for a place with these prices.More

Visited here on a busy Friday night for dinner with friends. Our waiter was so helpful and friendly. The evening started off really well. Then the level of service dropped. Starters arrived, the calamari was really tasty and cooked well. Then it took ages to...receive the mains. I had the prawn linguine, it was so disappointing for a standard menu item for an Italian restaurant. There was no sauce, it was more of a broth and there was too much garlic. Then we all finished eating, nobody came over to take the plates or ask about desserts so we asked for the bill and paid before the table was cleared of our main dishes. I left the majority of the linguine as it was not pleasant to eat. Nobody asked why or cared. For somewhere that is on the expensive side, this was not acceptable. Previous visits I have loved visiting here but this was a really disappointing visit.More

I suggest that you look at their website and the wine menu. There are a good range of reds 20+. It depends upon your taste and budget.
