Went with friends for the five course taster menu which was very good overall and very tasty. In particulal the blue cheese and white onion soup which was beautifully smooth and richly flavoured, a main course of pork was tender and all agreed delicious. We started with a cocktail and all had a diferent one, I can recommend the Vesper... More

I suppose if you never new merchants as it was 10 or so years ago you might like it, but if you are expecting the same experience now you will be disappointed. We arrived and the menus on the internet were not available, only the market menu, which looked nice but more what you would expect at the cock and... More

Certainly what you'd expect of this 'boutique' style Hotel restaurant. The food was enjoyable and not unreasonably priced.

Poor waiter service and no pizazz with the food flavours or quality. Our first visit to Merchants for 10 years or more. Disappointed to say the least. Bar staff pleasant and welcoming though.

We really enjoyed the white onion soup starter; thick and creamy with a Parmesan flavour but the salmon in fish course was a bit overdone for me. The lamb was delicious, toothsome and tender with a fantastic jus. Carrot cake was tasty and moist but seemed a bit odd and whilst the chocolate parfait had good flavour it was quite... More

We actually stayed in the hotel which was nice and the January offer was exceptional so no complaints there. There were a few issues which may have been more of an issue for others but on arrival we were told we could only eat off the market menu (limited choice but much cheaper). This was a Friday night. Therefore no... More

I was one of a party of 12 who visited the Merchants Restaurant at the Lace Market Hotel in December 2016. Initially several of us arrived early and went into the Cock-a-Hoop pub which forms part of the hotel. The pub offered a nice range of local cask ales which tempted me, although I have to say that the beer... More

A group of 11 of us went last night for our Christmas. Table was nicely presented with crackers, but we all sat at the table for a good half an hour before we were even offered a drink! My friend who organised the evening had pre ordered wine but we were told they had no record of this. The waiter... More

We came here for Sunday lunch to celebrate a friend's birthday. The service was great, the restaurant had a relaxed atmosphere and the food was delicious and very well priced at £14.50 for two courses. The menu had lots of choice in addition to the traditional Sunday lunch.
