I was visiting Whitby to watch Whitby town FC as my son was officiating. I decided to have a wander prior to the game. It was windy and bitter cold typical November really. I had walked quite a way and was ready for something to eat. Well, I have to say, I chose the right place! I was greeted immediately... More

Second visit to Whitby this year and it had to be a fish and chips meal at the Royal, by far the best in Whitby in my opinion and they didn't disappoint as usual 👍.

I've been to Whitby a few times in the last few years, but my wife had never been. As part of a two day trip, having eaten at the take away part of the Royal Fisheries on each visit, I decided we should go here for a sit down meal. It isn't exactly cheap, but to expected, partly due to... More

I am a regular visitor to Whitby and I have to say went into this restaurant for a fish lunch and we were not dissapointed. The best Fish and chips I have ever eaten. Simple cod chips and peas. The fish was thick and pure white and the batter golden and crispy with so much flavour. Lovely chips and peas... More

We are regular customers of Royal Fisheries. We always experience excellent food and service at a sensible price. We thoroughly recommend it.

You cannot visit Whitby without having fish and chips, so after a morning walking round the town we looked for somewhere to have lunch. The Magpie is the better known establishment but we came across Royal Fisheries amongst the high street shops just as the rain came down. On entering it is just like a typical fish and chip cafe... We selected this restaurant for its location (not too far from where we were in relation to where we are staying). We chose scampi & chips the service was not quick but the food was cooked well nice & crispy with no excess grease. I loved the crinkle cut chips the salad garnish was fresh but the presentation is dated... More

Off the main drag, I have eaten here several times and not been disappointed. I've never had to queue. Lovely fresh fish, light batter, non soggy crinkle chips...what's not to like? Clean, efficient and friendly.

This is an excellent fish restaurant, our particular favourite is the haddock and chips. The haddock is a generous portion and very tasty whilst the chips are mouth watering. If you're in Whitby don't miss out. Forget the Magpie it's always crowded and Royal Fisheries is much better.

My son and I had the large fish and chips meal which included tea and bread and butter - one small pot of tea between the two of us plus one small pot of hot water plus an unsubstantial half slice of brown and white bread each. The fish was small considering we went for the large option - the... More
