I ate at Gem on a Sunday evening (6 December. A day that is difficult to find a good restaurant open at the best of times. We were given a lovely table in a corner. The table has a small bottle of hand sanitiser ready...to use. They take no shortcuts where hygiene is concerned. One feels safe as soon as one walks in. Tables are arranged at a safe distance from one another. But there was a buzz in the room that lifted the spirits. People well dressed and happy at the opportunity to enjoy a meal out in a most agreeable space. The service was first class, with attention to detail. A calm and easy professional approach. Menu is extensive and wonderful. There is definitely something for everyone. .....from carnivores to the strict vegan. I was spoiled for choice, and had difficulty making a final decision. The meze tasting platter was a good place to start. Some of the best meze I have ever tasted.....and they come with soft warm pitta. Had to resist eating too much of the bread as I had a main to eat. We ordered one hot starter to share, the lamb liver. This will change your mind about liver if you ever had the tough shoe leather version and hated it. this was tender, juicy, flavourful meat accompanied by a seasoning and sauce. I would go back tomorrow just to have another helping of that dish. For a main I had meatless stuffed aubergine. This wonderful dish, was a combination of roasted peppers, tomatoes, aubergine, onions and spices cooked to succulent perfection. My friend had lamb shish. The lamb cooked and seasoned beautifully. Tender and tasty. I cannot fault this place. The relaxed atmosphere, lovely decor, cleanliness, first class service and amazing food with much to choose has made it a restaurant I will return to often. In normal times it would suit large private groups as there is an upper floor with extensive seating.More
