Came here for a birthday dinner recently and were very impressed with the food and service. We ordered a range of sharing platters including sprats, snails, devilled kidneys, pork, quail and ox cheek. Everything was delicious and very fresh. Portion sizes were good and each platter gave us a fair size share (between four). Dishes arrived fairly promptly and with... More

If it's an old-school start to the day you're after, then St John Bread and Wine is the place for you. Service fairly friendly, but rather on the cool side as I've invariably found in all St John outlets ( to accompany the stripped-back, clinical surroundings perhaps ). A decent, strong flat white, but I was kept waiting for my... More

Amazing seasonal menu with a variety of offal and other cuts of meats to try even for lunch. Got there at the beginning of lunch. No wait, easy to order, and relatively quick service.

Simple traditional breakfast food using good quality ingredients. The coffee was good too. No need to say more.

Food doesn't get much better than this. A casual restaurant serving traditional dishes based on locally sourced ingredients. Go now!

“Meh” just about sums up the experience and food from this establishment. It touts itself as a nose to tail eatery offering a hearty Sunday brunch. Honestly, for the number of other more engaging restaurants in the price range (£20pp) in the area SJBW falls far from the mark. We ordered from a very sparse and uninteresting brunch menu as... This is a great place to have lunch near Spitalfield's. The menu is truly original and the staff are patient, friendly and happy to explain. The food is delicious. I feel like I learn something new about British produce every time I eat here. Everything down to the bread and butter is of the best quality. There is something new... More

After the busy markets we needed a breather. Clean, friendly ,buzzing. And menu just right for the meat eater in the group. Proper bacon, meaty sausages and home made sauce. Bloody marvellous. Artisan bread and tea and coffee to suit all. Bathrooms downstairs and clean. Plenty of water on the table. Something we all like. Next time going to go... More

The parts of the animal that you would normally not eat are the best aspects of the SJBW experience. Delicious liver, and pig tail. Vegetables overcooked or over seasoned. Stick to the meat and take instagram photos to freak out your veggie friends.

The product with which they make the dishes are of great quality. Had the plaice and it was really amazing. The bread in this place is absolutely amazing. The staff is so nice and make the experience even better. Typically English food def worth trying.

Staying in Spitalfields

Neighbourhood Profile
Spitalfields
For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the next big global trend, the hipster zone of Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain hunters sizing up its street markets, foodie foragers throughout the day, or late night revelers hitting some of London's most popular bars and clubs.

Wedged between the business-minded City of London, expressly trendy Shoreditch, and zestful Whitechapel, the lines between traditional and contemporary beautifully blur in this historic East End nexus.
