My hubby and kids went there first to get a table at 7:30pm and so lucky we made booking in advance for 7:45pm as the place was so busy… yes so busy on a Tuesday night! We ordered nothing raw as we have small kids...and the food bill came to £66.20 and drinks (include few sakes) around £40… First the tall seems to be Japanese waitress wasn’t so friendly and when we order we show her the menu and say we want this one please, she replied, I cannot see read it… okay I tried my best to pronounce… yes the place is a dimmed… Then I said I like to order black cod please, she said no, no black cod. So I said ohhh I came all the way from Leicester for the black cod with a big smile on my face… said it lightly and they waitress no respond at all 😂 she was not friend, and very cold… not sure it it’s was busy or she might be stressed out 😮‍💨 Food wise, my fav was the cold soba and second was the fried udon… Appetiser we had fish sea beam which was weird, no taste and chewy and the tofu absolutely no taste, can taste few ginger and spring onions… Grilled skewers set A… taste so so… some chicken very soft and juicy and raw… I would say medium… Some chicken super tough and dried… Ordered the ox tongue x2, it was okay… but my hubby said not worth it… over all the grilled skewers was a bit too burnt… little charcoal okay but too much you can only taste the bitter charcoal… Butter mushroom I wish they didn’t squeeze any lemon in as it ruins it for me… it was good until you taste the acidic lemon int he butter mushroom… Coke in big pint glass and apple juice in half pint… sakes was nice 👍 the man working at the till for our bill was a lot friendly and more smile, I think he is Japanese too. They don’t have normal bill, it was a bunch of hand written ones and I had no idea what they are 😅 Overall… it was okay experience, better than the stick and sushi that we had in Cambridge with similar price… we may not return anytime soon…More

It's like they picked up a really restaurant in Japan, and dropped it in Hampsted. The grilled things in particular are amazing. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. It's quite expensive but the quality of food is unrivaled.

I’ve only been coming here 20 year. It is as raw as it authentic and it is without doubt the best Yakitori restaurant outside of Japan. The quality Jim Kinchi serves is exceptional from the skewers to the seaweed salad, udon and sashimi and sushi....I couldn’t recommend this place more if I tried.More

A small family-run restaurant serving Japanese food. As you walk through the doors you are greeted with a welcome and a bow. Traditional Japanese hospitality and an ambience and decor that would not be out of place in Tokyo! The food and service live up...to expectations. The sushi here is some of the best I have had in the whole of London. The flavours were delicate and yet sublime. The service is exemplary. There is a lot on the menu and we will be making another visit as soon as possible to try other items! Would advise making a reservation - this place is booked out most evenings.More

We've been coming here almost weekly for the past two years. It's really extremely high quality, both the fish and the grilled dishes. The only downside is that it has spoiled us on other Japanese places in London, as they never measure up. I almost...never give reviews, but an exception is in order here. Its a top place - don't hesitate to try for yourself.More

This is a tiny restaurant run by Japanese. It is incredibly hard to get a table as it is so popular. It is feels like you are transported to Japan as soon as you slide back the door. The food is excellent with fantastic fresh...sushi, tempura, a variety of fish and meat dishes such as black cod with miso and salmon teriyaki. Very good yakitori. Good selection of sakes, beer and wine. Staff very efficient and nice.More

If you've seen that series on Netflix this place interior is a ringer although the hours are more conventional ! Proper traditional food beautifully prepared and presented. "Master" has skewers on the grill and the whole experience is pleasingly authentic .

We had been planning to visit after hearing good reviews - decided to go when the EO to HO offer was on. Restaurant was packed - no social distancing here.... We strongly recommend anyone not familiar with Japanese cuisine to look online (as we did)...before you go as the menu is large and bewildering. We ordered a selection of sushi and simmered, also skewers and black cod which was tasty. Plus we had a beer, a glass of plum wine and a refreshing lemon cocktail. All in all the bill with discount came to £70 (for 2) - not a cheap night out for what is basically café style surroundings. For £90 which was the full price of the meal we could have had a complete gourmet experience somewhere else in more sumptuous surroundings. Because of these factors we're not sure when we will visit again although we have picked out what we would have next time!More

I went to Jin Kichi with some friends for my birthday mostly because it was local, Japanese and looked interesting. The restaurant is pretty casual and authentic with a focus on quality food over aesthetics. An upstairs table is a good idea so that you...can watch true Robatayaki chefs at work. The staff were warm and knowledgeable, giving us great sake recommendations. All of the kushiyaki we ordered was super good. This is now one of my favourite Robata bars outside of Tokyo.More

My Tonkatsu had many hard unchewable parts. Rice was over cooked and tasteless. Have to mention the price of drinks i.e. beer, sake, ... is extortionate in jin kichi. The bbq was very average. All in all Jin Kichi is expensive and the food is...bad. I will not be visiting this place again.More
