We had no real idea of what to expect but were up for the adventure. I choose the white menu, my wife chose the red menu and waited to be surprised. We were introduced to Trevor our guide for the night, he was superb. He led us to our table, hands on shoulders as we entered the totally dark room.... More

I did this in other cities and liked to learn and understand a bit the challenges of blind people. This one is not about blindness, it is about eating overpriced food in a dark noisy room with waiters that do not seem too happy with what they are doing. Feels very much like making money by pretending to be a... More

I was excited from the minute I heard we was going here and wasn't disappointed, the staff were very friendly and attentive, our waiter ( forgotten his name sorry) was yes totally blind, was so funny, chatted to us like he'd know us for years and remembered all of our names and we were a group of six, food was... Great experience to eat in utter and compete darkness. Very un-nerving and I was glad there were people next to us at the table so we could compare notes! Good food, very interesting tastes and recipes.

Would probably say a one off. But an experience like I've never experienced in my life. To eat in THE darkest room I've ever been... you really do rely on your taste buds. A big frustration was not being able to use the cutlery properly due to obviously not being able to see. The staff were brilliant though, especially Roberto... More

(pre Jun '16) We visited in Feb '14 to help celebrate a friends birthday. Had no expectations from this dine in the dark restaurant but what an experience! It's amazing how your other senses are heightened once you've 'lost' the use of one. It was exceptional, from being led hands on shoulders into the dining area, to familiarising yourself with... It was a great experience, not for the food, which we only found okay, but the experience which was really interesting!!Our waiter, Fabio, was amazing and we ended up having dinner and chatting with the couple sitting next to us, who we had no idea what they looked like!It was a one off experience for us, but it was definitely... We've just had the most amazing lunch ever - eaten in complete darkness and served by non-sighted waiters, without a drip, slip or trip! The food was wonderful, and although we could pick the type of food preferred (vegetarian, fish, meat or 'Chef's surprise') and give a list of foods not liked, we didn't know the exact menu till afterwards.... Probably a one off experience but really worth doing. Brilliantly simple concept of dining in the dark and the challenges this brings sighted people. Friendly, sighted staff greet you and run through the menu options ( meat eater, fish veggie etc) and introduce you to your blind waiter. He leads you into the totally dark restaurant and by the time... More

Our waiter was very nice and friendly, it was such a good experience and makes you very grateful for the smallest things. I am someone who is quite picky with my food but it pushed me out of my comfort zone as i was trying things i wouldn't really try normally. I've told all my friends to go, definitely a... More

Description
Located in trendy Clerkenwell, the novel concept behind Dans le Noir is to re-think the notion of taste by serving your food in complete pitch darkness. The eclectic menu is designed to maximise such heightened sensory awareness; instead of listed dishes, there are surprise menus with omissions to suit different tastes (such as vegetarian). Blind staff serve and guide diners in the main restaurant, with a lit bar and lounge for ordering and pre- or post-dinner cocktails.

Staying in Clerkenwell

Neighbourhood Profile
Clerkenwell
Owing to its proximity to Smithfield Market – the site of an ancient meat market which remains in operation today – Clerkenwell boasts a plethora of globally renowned restaurants, fabulous local eateries, and some of London's favorite pubs. This isn't merely a focal point for all things foodie though. Spend enough time wondering through the area's maze of streets and you might become accustomed to the litany of slinky models passing between Clerkenwell's handful of fashion houses. Far outnumbering the models are craftspeople and designers, many of them are more than happy to welcome visitors into their studios and showrooms.
