A marvellous wonderful restaurant ceases this Saturday - such a shame, one of my favourite places to eat - varied and excellent menus. Will miss the Polenta Ragu ....

The food's ok - overpriced but ok. The biggest disappointment is the ambience: there is none. We were plonked upstairs which is like being seated in your Auntie Margaret's back bedroom and being thrown some food every now and again. Not great for £60 a...More

Well managed great restaurant. They know wine, food and service. They recommended decent priced wine and good amount of the food. They planned release noise design so we could relax in the restaurant.

From the initial greeting, through the excellent table to the wonderful food and service, we could not rate Magdalen more highly. The staff are bright but not pushy, the menu fresh and seasonal. The wine not cheap but well priced for the quality. Will definitely...More

Superb food and service. How rare in London to get a reasonably priced restaurant serving modern British food of such a high standard. Lovely atmosphere and decor. My mussels cooked saffron and leeks were the best ever and the chicken superb. Desserts very slightly disappointing...More

This part of the south bank if the Thames use to be dead as a dodo. But the pace of rejuvenation sees the area become very gentrified. Magdalen has been here for a number of years in a rather elegant old building as these changes...More

Came for a business lunch and found a good environment for that. Tables reasonably well spaced and lots of fabric to reduce background noise for us deaf old guys. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was interesting, tasty and very decent value for...More

I have been to this restaurant many times but the standard has dropped. While the food was average with high prices, the service was appalling. My coat was stolen and the staff were extremely unhelpful and showed no understanding or offered any resolution. Will never...More

I visited with my Husband for an early Christmas Lunch and was unsure, after reading some of the reviews. On arrival at the restaurant, before we had even taken our coats off and sat down, we were asked whether we wanted water. We didn't know...More

We've been before and had a knockout meal, about 18 months ago. Went again recently and it wasn't anywhere near as good. Nice menu, nice wine list, nice people looking after you and a nice dining room but the meal was just not up to...More

Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard,
the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond
any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some
time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved
browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street,
foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old
foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks
of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest
