From the moment we arrived at Village East, we were warmly welcomed and helped by every member of staff, who couldn't have done more to accommodate us. Our party to celebrate a hen do included a wheelchair user who was happily and easily assisted by the lovely staff. Each staff member went above and beyond with their attentiveness and enthusiasm;... Late Saturday afternoon visit for drinks. Staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Had a reserved table until the time arrived and then they found us another one without being asked. Great cocktails and fun atmosphere. Recommend.

Dropped in here as we walked down the street and love it. Staff are super friendly and efficient. Sat at a table that needed to be vacated an hour after we arrived but they found us another table without being asked. Wish there was a bar like this closer to where we live!

We came here in a group of 14 for a team dinner. The food's good, but for some reason they didn't make all the orders, so one of us had to wait an extra 45 minutes! Terrible and not acceptable, given the level of service you would expect from other restaurants in the area.

Called in midweek. Service was quick and friendly. Food was good - calamari and pork belly were both fine and so reportedly was the burger. Maybe a little pricy for the quality and portions but overall would recommend it.

Village East is a great little place offering a range of meat, fish and veggie dishes all cooked really well. I enjoyed my steak and salad very much and the steak ordered blue was perfectly cooked. They offer a vast wine list and a good selection of beers and and ales.

I had the scallops to start, and they were delicious! However the portion was on the small side. For main I had the pork belly, and it was again a very tasty dish. Staff were attentive and friendly without being overbearing. The 2-person booth that we were sat it was a little on the snug side. Wouldn't hesitate to visit... More

Would you believe after visiting this place approximately a month ago I received another invite. I thought that the bad food and poor service last time might just be a one off! How wrong I was, the food we ordered as a large group of four! Came out at different times, the staff were rude when I asked if this... More

Very disappointingly I was recommended this restaurant from friends but I was not impressed at all, the service was not good, I was over charged for things I did not receive, but only realised this after leaving the restaurant. I then emailed them and 1 week later still no response. Shocking service,

This bar offers the usual alcoholic selection but also does some very nice cocktails. I had one with pistachio and limoncello. Really imaginative. It's a trendy bar in a trendy area so it gets busy.

Village East restaurant in chic south London enclave Bermondsey Street is designed to call to mind a hip East Village establishment in Manhattan. It sprawls through a listed warehouse and glass-fronted apartment building and is decorated in polished concrete, rough wooden pillars, striking curved white chairs, and a wide open kitchen. Sit back and enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine while watching chefs hard at work creating the modern eclectic dishes that make up the Village East menu. In laymans terms, this means European flavours and techniques are coupled with South East Asian influences, resulting in some intriguing combinations. We had our eye on the seared scallops and caramelised pork belly with carrot puree and teriyaki glaze; and the West Cork beef burger with sauteed foie gras, caramelised onion, jumbo gherkin and chips, but if youre more in the mood for a steak, or fish and chips, theres plenty of that on offer too.

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
