Went to Matsuri for lunch. Have been many times both lunch and dinner. This time we had teppanyaki which was great. I also had some a la carte sushi. The quality of the food is always top. One of the few places where they have Cho Toro (medium fatty tuna) which is a must taste for tuna lovers. The service... More

I would not put Japanese food at the top of my wanted list, but I was a guest so determined to make the most of it. We had a private dining room so it felt premium and a little special. I was determined to make the most of the ordered banquet despite a little reticence toward raw fish courses. When... More

Visiting the third time we again had the same experience of delicious fresh food with so much to choose all of excellent quality. But we missed somewhat the typical traditional Japanese clothing like the kimono's of last year and before of the staff. All in all we come back next year to get another great experience.

"Do you have a reservation?" Er, no. Nor do you need one. It has very nice set lunches. Not cheap though.

From the moment we sat down until the moment we left, we were guided through the courses on the banquet and, to cap it all, every mouthful was an absolute delight. Over 3 hours came and went and it seemed like 30 minutes. The final presentation for my partner's birthday was delightful. Absolutely delightful and a wonderful experience - we... More

OMG the food and experience here was amazing. Lovely welcoming staff . Great for couples or groups as the chef cooks your food on a hot plate in front of you. Extensive menu choice....I had lobster tail with tenderloin steak, veg and spicy rice which was all delicious. £150 for 2 but worth it for the experience of something different.... More

We had the middle menu of the three (£100 a head). The food was good with the very rich and flavourful wagyu the highlight. While I was full and the food very good, I did feel that it was pretty pricey considering the chefs and the staff we had weren't Japanese (ie I'm guessing weren't trained in Japan). Regardless, I... Fabulous teppanyaki restaurant in St.James's. Elegant and efficient staff and really talented chefs that will keep you and the rest of your table well fed and thoroughly entertained. Really colourful decor and very comfortable. I have dined both a la carte and set menus at this restaurant and both meals were wonderful. You must have the flaming ice cream desert!!... More

Had a quick business lunch at the sushi bar of this very central restaurant. It offers two dining experiences: a sushi bar (where you have a meal looking at the sushi chefs) and a teppanyaki side. We opted for the sushi counter. The fish was fantastically fresh, and the service pleasant and speedy - used to a demanding clientele (lots... More

Description
Matsuri St James's is based in the heart of Mayfair, offering a wide variety of Japanese food from authentic to innovative. Using top quality ingredients we create a beautiful harmony including teppanyaki - a cooking style in which a chef cooks in front of you. The Sushi bar is very popular among Japanese expatriates as they recognise the same quality as they eat in Japan.

Staying in St. James's

Neighbourhood Profile
St. James's
Perennially fashionable since the days of Henry VIII, the aristocratic “Clubland” of St James's is a premier destination for high end craft and bespoke design. Here you’ll lose count of the Royal Warrants (which indicate that the Royal Family patronizes the establishment) seen in shop front windows, even during a short stroll to bordering Green Park or St James’s Park. With the brightly lit and constantly buzzing junction of Piccadilly Circus at its northeast corner and none of Central London too far away, this is an surprisingly central and accessible part of town, especially given its prosperous demeanor.
