bankside london is always thronging crowds during the season but if u visit in Set - Oct then its less people and later in the night maybe after u have watched a play in the Shakespeare's Globe or had dinner at the Hay's Galleria - walk along the bankside - and we have a guitarist playing mournful, maudlin tunes ,... So much to see and do, places to visit, food to eat, street performers to enjoy, you need to spend a whole day to thoroughly experience all that this historic venue has to offer. My only little gripe is that you have to share it with serious bike riders, energetic fitness freaks and kids on skateboards which does make strolling... More

Bankside is a district in Southwark that is undergoing a lot of redevelopment. The area is now home to many new buildings, offices and apartment blocks. Offering wonderful riverside walks, this area is trendy, lively and presents an excellent option for a lovely stroll.

Avoid this place unless you want to wait hours for food and when the food eventually arrives expect it to be uncooked. Simply DO NOT GO

We booked a late table for a group of colleagues only to arrive to find out they do not serve food that late and that the restaurant had turned into a club with loud music pumping out onto the street. The doorman was quite rude to us considering we had a booking and made no attempt to rectify the situation... More

Nothing flash, but has reasonable basics. Good for groups.

Description
The newest arrival to the Biagio family, Biagio @ Bankside occupies a fabulous position just off of the Southwark Bridge. Close to everything the wonderful Bankside has to offer this restaurant follows the tried and tested Biagio formula of contemporary-meets-traditional surroundings, warm Italian welcome and great value food. Authentic in every sense, the menu is a wonderful breath of fresh Italian air, combining the best of all regions with its fantastic meat and fish dishes, fresh, delicious pasta and, of course, a selection of wonderful pizzas which put the average Italian chain restaurant to shame. The large bar area provides a relaxing space in which to enjoy an aperitif or to digest your meal as you finish your evening in style.

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
