On a couple of occasions I've been here for a drink before using the theatre next door. It's always a packed pub but has a nice atmosphere and speedy bar service. A friend and I ate here one evening in December, something I wouldn't repeat. For starters, we ordered potted shrimp. There were about four shrimp, the rest was butter... More

Great beer, but the food is just alright and often sold out. Very friendly crew, could ask them for beer recommendations.

We were expecting to have a light lunch and some beers, but the menu was so good (and reasonably priced) that we ended up ordering a three course meal and a bottle of wine. Everything was fresh and hearty, but actually I'm happy to know it exists because theres been many times that I find myself in Victoria meeting with... More

We were very pleased to find this peaceful and quiet place to have a nice drink on a cold November night out in London. It is great in every way, welcoming and cosy, with plenty of seating, and is just this much outside of the busy Victoria commuters' route so it is not rushed at all and inviting! Unfortunately, we... This is a noisy and popular pub, but there is a slightly quieter eating area at the bag. We had the Hake Supreme and Seabass as main courses, and the fish was beautifully cooked. The desserts were quite good, but the winter crumble is to be recommended over the poached quince (where the fruit was rather hard). The only grumble... More

Went for a mid-week lunch with colleagues. Service was very good. Food presentation was excellent. The price for the portion of food was very expensive even taking the prime location into account. Had well-made fish fillet with an assortment of vegetables.

Our local, we know it well. It has changed a lot recently and not for the better. A few of us went for lunch. No starters on menu which is a shame but otherwise a good bistro choice. Food well cooked but some of party waited 10 mins for food after rest served. A bit random, as one order of... More

A nice neighborhood pub that was open on Sunday. We had stopped in a few days earlier and couldn't get a table. On a Sunday evening, looking for an early dinner, that wasn't a problem. The beer was cold and the fish and chips were delicious.

After site-seeing London for over 8 hours, I walked into the Phoenix to chill and have some dinner. I noticed the bar was stocked with all types of liquor. I walked up to a bearded hipster bartender and asked for a martini. He glared at me and rudely declared, "I don't do mixed drinks." I almost walked out but I... More

We had the Sunday roast in the Phoenix recently. The food was very good and the staff were very friendly. We sat on bar stools at one of the butcher's blocks and the staff really looked after us well. The gravy was delicious, although the portions were not huge, we felt satisfied and enjoyed the flavour of the food. A... More

Description
Less than a 5-minute walk from Victoria station and in the heart of the hustle and bustle is the Phoenix, a pub with split personalities. During the week, it is popular with busy office workers looking to entertain clients or grab the express lunch. On the weekend, this is the ideal spot for tourists to enjoy proper English food, whilst reflecting over their photos of nearby Buckingham Palace. The menu offers dishes with the freshest ingredients and a little bit of style, whilst the express lunch is great when on the move - 2 or 3 courses served on a slate together. Alternatively, make your own salad at the salad bar, or pick a hearty meal or just a snack from the menu. Typical of Geronimo's pubs, you can kick back on the large cosy sofas with the high wooden tables and enjoy a personal touch with the open kitchen.

Staying in Westminster

Neighbourhood Profile
Westminster
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.
