Upscale eatery (though several patrons in casual dress, even jeans on a chilly.) Impressive formal decor, making it quite noisy, though conversation was not impeded too much.)
We started with cocktails (a satisfactorily dry Martini with Plymouth Navy Strength gin was excellent), as was the Midas Touch with cynar, Macallen 12 and pear eau de vie.)
For starters a mushroom soup was putstang though tuna tartare in a poke- like preparation was a bit overwhelmed by soy.
A venison loin n a port wine reduction was quite tender but the sauce somehow managed to be similarly overwhelming. It was rescued by truffle mashed potatoes, though. The standout was Berners’s version of Mac and Cheese with poached lobster: Rich, creamy, with no lack of lobstery deliciousness. The small loaves of bread with truffle butter were perfect and necessary for mopping up the various sauces.
We did not have desert and four chocolate truffles were complimentary and topped off the meal nicely.
An unfortunately thin glass of vino nobile de Montepulciano did little for the venison but a glass of chablis paired well with the Mac and cheese.
Total cost for two was a steep
GBP230 including the automatic 13.5% service charge. Service was impeccable and our server was not working not only affable but multilingual, too (English, French and some German.)
All-in-all a good experience if you’re looking for a posh meal out London, though overpriced.

I had dinner at this splendid restaurant on the occasion of my birthday.
The room is enchanting and evocative, ideal not only for dinners as a couple (the furnishings make the atmosphere very romantic), but also for dinners with friends.
The cost is high (this was to be expected in Soho anyway), but the food is absolutely up to par and fully met all our expectations, both from an aesthetic point of view (all the dishes were well presented) and in terms of taste. and quality of ingredients.
A special mention goes to Shakira, who, with her attention and kindness, made my thirtieth birthday celebration special.
I recommend it and will definitely return.

Exemplary service - great food.
When your tap water is filled up just as swiftly as your bottled water or wine you know it’s a team of high class professionals serving you.
We were made to feel very welcome, our table was ready for us and the wait team polite, attentive, friendly and appropriately jokey.
Food was exquisite- meat perfectly cooked, Mac and Cheese creamy and tasty and the gnocchi fresh and smooth.

Loud thumping music has replaced the once finer elegant background tunes.
A 175ml glass of Whispering Angel rose is £20 which is equivalent to £85 a bottle or a 500% mark up over the £15 price you can pay when supermarkets are giving an offer.
On the plus side the food was good quality and well prepared.
I ordered from the two course menu but decided to only have one course. I told the waiter I was happy to pay the fixed price for the two courses but the waiter said it was ‘mandatory’ for me to have two courses and he had to bring me something else to eat even though I didn’t want it. Bizarre! A lengthy exchange of words ensued going around in circles until someone more senior agreed much to my relief that I could pay for two courses but only eat one. I wish they would adopt the same illogical policy for their criminal wine prices.
I left feeling puzzled and won’t be returning in a hurry.

Dear John P,
Thank you for your feedback and for acknowledging the quality of the food. We’re sorry to hear that the music and pricing affected your experience. We understand the music wasn't to your taste, and we did our best to adjust the volume to make your visit more comfortable.
Regarding the two-course menu, our intention was to offer the best value, and there may have been a misunderstanding about your options. We apologize for any confusion and are glad it was resolved in the end.
We appreciate your input and will use it to improve our service.
Warm regards,

The reviews were great and the restaurant is very beautiful. We were very much looking forward to a dinner that matched the hype and the ambiance of the restaurant.
Unfortunately the meal was so bad that the manager tried her feeble best to make up the terrible 110 pound steak by providing us with a one half inch version of a ribeye steak as a substitute. As well I later received a note telling me how well I will be looked after if I return. However, I do not live in London so it would be quite a while before I might return. I did then correspond with the manager and suggest that she should have either taken the terrible steak off the check or offer a credit towards a future meal. No response at all.
Don't believe the hype in the paid for reviews. This is a mediocre restaurant with marginal food. And very poor management.

Dear BeachBoy2009,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We’re glad you found the restaurant beautiful and had high expectations based on the positive reviews. We work hard to create a welcoming atmosphere, and it's nice to know that the ambiance resonated with you.
However, we're deeply sorry to hear that your dining experience did not meet those expectations, particularly regarding the quality of your steak and the handling of the situation. It's clear we fell short in delivering the exceptional meal and service you deserved, and for that, we sincerely apologize.
We’re especially sorry to hear that your follow-up communication went unanswered. This is not the level of attentiveness we aim for, and we will be addressing this with our management team to ensure better communication in the future.
Although we understand that you may not return to London soon, should your travels bring you back, we’d love the opportunity to welcome you again and provide a dining experience that better reflects the high standards we strive for. Thank you again for your feedback, as it helps us to improve.
Warm regards,
Fernando Paredes Moldenhauer, General Manager, Berners Tavern

We attended Sunday Lunch. We were welcomed and made to feel very comfortable. As my wife was expecting and celebrating her birthday, the staff went over and above to ensure it was a memorable occasion. In addition to gifting us complimentary deserts, the staff took a family photo of us and printed it with a special note wishing us all the best. Special thanks for Guha for all his efforts. We look forward to visiting again very soon.

We visited Berner's Tavern and were immediately impressed by the beautiful interior. As soon as we sat down, however, we were immediately pressed to order wine, which we did but the servers kept returning, interrupting our dinner with friends, to push expensive wines on us when the first one wasn't even done and the meal has not even been ordered. Food was ok, but way overpriced for what we got and nothing to write home about. Our biggest complaint is the extremely aggressive pushing of wine/alcohol, driving up our bill more than double spent on other gorgeous London restaurants.

The restaurant interior is fantastic The staff are very attentive and polite. The menu is quite limited, but there is something on it for everyone and the food itself is simply delicious. The wine list is very good with something to suit most budgets and tastes.

This restaurant has a nice, classic decor and an impressive wine list. However, service was very slow and the meal was average at best. Further, it took the waiter almost twenty minutes just to take our order for drinks and another twenty to thirty minutes to take our meal order. We noticed that the manager and the head waiter were more interested in attending the VIP couple sitting next to our table to the point where the manager sat almost next to us to speak with the other couple. It was rude and unpleasant for us.

This is an absolutely fantastic place! From the architecture to the atmosphere and of course the food. We had the fillet steak and risotto with a perfectly paired bottle of pinot Noir from Oregon - a great recommendation from the sommelier Ricardo🍷👌 This will be one of our go to places the next time we are in the area. Highly recommended.

The waiting time was very long. We ordered drinks but we did not get them. We asked twice but nothing. We asked the menu for the dessert instead we were given the list of apetizers. We requested our coat but twice we got them wrong.
The place is very cool, the meat was very good but Im afraid to say that the attention to customers is very weak.

Been to Berners inn on several occasions for lunch and dinner. The food and service has always been good although wine is slightly overpriced. However went for lunch last weekend with visiting US friends The restaurant was only 20% full. The food was awful.
My friends starters were all good my pork pie starter was tasteless, worst Sunday lunch, Luke warm main meal reheated potatoes that almost bounced off the plate. @£90 a head with wine not on. Service was good . Didn’t complain at time as didn’t want to spoil celebration. When mentioned to friends after all agreed. Wrote to restaurant that evening apologised and offered me a glass of champagne on my next visit. Think not!!!!! Very disappointed don’t go for Sunday lunch.

Sunday February 25th table for two, I think our server had no less than 10 tables, needless to say, service was poor to say the least. Not sure why you would staff such a lovely restaurant so poorly, certainly wasn’t worth the money, no one filled up water classes, empty plates sat and took long to be cleared, no follow up on meals served. There were more staff in the bar than the restaurant. I wouldn’t bother to return.
If you are short staffed, tell me before you seat me, then I can make decision on whether to spend 200 pounds on a poor experience, would have preferred a beer and pizza in the Hotel bar, and spent much less and had far better service.

Dear ahsd,
We deeply regret the disappointing experience you had during your recent visit to our restaurant. It's disheartening to hear that our service fell short of your expectations and that you felt neglected due to the high workload of your server.
Please accept our sincerest apologies for the lapses in service, including the slow response in refilling water glasses and clearing empty plates. We understand the importance of attentive and efficient service, and we're truly sorry for failing to deliver on this occasion.
Your feedback regarding staffing levels is greatly appreciated, and we'll be reviewing our staffing arrangements to ensure that such issues are addressed promptly. We understand the value of transparency and will strive to communicate any staffing constraints to our guests before seating them.
We hope for the opportunity to regain your trust and welcome you back for a much-improved dining experience in the future.
Warm regards,

We come here every now and then as a lovely go to celebration venue. Beautiful room, perfect round table for 6 and always great service.
Sadly on this occasion the usual wow factor came up well short on the plate.
The pork pie starter at £18 used to be a party piece. A large crust slice of pie carved at the table with quenelles of mustards made at the table. Pickled radish, onion and salad accompanied it. Sadly a small uninspiring slice of pie,a couple of token quenelles and no theatre even though the chutney was delicious.Don’t have it unless they improve it back to what it was.
Burrata and crab soup were very good as was the lovely bread.
Then came the meat fest chateaubriand x2 and cote de boeuf. What a shame one of the chateaus was so rare it went back twice while the other was perfect. The trouble with sharing is 2 of the group had to wait and it really spoiled there meal and made the rest of us a bit guilty cracking on.The cote de boeuf hadn’t been rested enough so blood started leaking on to the table as we waited. If its being served on a wooden block either rest it longer or get a block with a drain !
Service was good until we paid the bill and then we might as well have been invisible as the main staff had either moved on or gone ! Always nice to get a big goodbye when you leave and possibly a “ sorry about the steak”.
£600 bill for 6 is not cheap and though we had some fun I just wondered how the chefs on the pass when carving the beef could not see one was perfect and one wasn’t. They always say the measure of a good restaurant is if they can cook a good steak and on this occasion they couldn’t.
I know its a first world problem but expensive cuts need careful cooking otherwise whats the point?
I do love this place and hope its a blip we will be back.

We dined at Berners Tavern on Thursday night for a special occasion. The staff made sure everything was perfect, the mac and cheese was very tasty and the meat main courses as well. A special thanks to the sommelier Francesco and Salvatore who took care of us by recommending us the best choice of wines! I would definitely recommend for a wonderful evening in a great venue, 5 star🌟
