I was a little bit apprehensive about coming after seeing some bad reviews- after eating there I feel like these people just don’t understand how restaurants work! It was a wonderful evening with a very nice waitress who made a kind effort to speak both...French and English to our table (my wife speaks French). The food was very good! Wonderful desserts as well. Yes we had to leave a little early because the table was rebooked but the waitress was not rude about it. I am happy that they are getting enough bookings - would be sad to see the place go out of business. will definitely visit again!More

I’ve ordered a portion of bread, and had to pay for the butter coming with it. The confit duck was overcooked, and the snails frozen. I had better dinner experiences at Wetherspoons.

Surprise find! Walking into the restaurant one would not expect to find such and interesting ambience, and a simple but excellent menu. Everything about it is well thought out. Great place for an intimate evening out or a business meeting.

The waitress was very rude to all of us. We were half French and foreign people and she didn’t make any effort to speak English to them, it seems to annoy her. We had for example to ask many times to have a bottle of...water or bread. She took the bottle of wine and fill our glasses without asking if we wanted her to do it just to throw it in the trash so she won’t have to do it later (one of the person were at the toilet and didn’t want more and was surprised to see his glass filled). She didn’t take the time to explain us clearly things so we had to pay more than what we expected. We were surprised that in a French restaurant there is frozen bread which were half unfrozen to eat a fondue. This is a restaurant way too expensive for the quality of the service and the meals. I don’t recommend it if you want to taste a good French restaurant in London.More

Great experience @ Le Vieux Comptoir: cosy restaurant, nice atmosphere, good food and amazing wine selection. Had a great time there and definitely be back!

Called two weeks ago to book a table on Thursday evening for my friend and I and asked if it would be possible to have a table respecting social distancing due to Covid. I’m French and the person on the phone, French as well, asked...me (in French): Why? Are you scared?” with an almost ironic tone. I was stunned by the question and explained to him that “yes indeed I did not want to take unecessary risks as everyone reacts to the virus differently and that the last time we had been assigned a table just next to a group of 6-7 people”. The person then tells me that “of course if you are old and have underlying illnesses, you’re not going to do very well...”. Clearly someone who thought that he was a medical specialist when everybody knows by now that this statement is simply not true and that people of all ages have died! Reminded me the Parisians “know-it-all” when I lived in France. Anyway, I did not bother cancelling the booking for fear of having to listen to more idiotic comments from this person. For sure people like him are not helping to keep the virus under control and will then cry that they lost their job.More

I don't understand the bad reviews on this page.. maybe it's people with high expectations or expecting a Michelin star experience in a little cellar? I have been to this restaurant twice and both times the food was excellent and service very good. Huge portions...as well. We went a couple of days ago, the frog legs very nice, onion soup excellent in a huge bowl, the duck leg too big (my partner finished my plate) and the duck and blue cheese hamburger out of this world. I love this place and the ambience and I will come back for sure. Merci.More

I accidentally stumbled upon this wine shop/restaurant and tbf, I'm very glad I did. Wide selection of French wines and champagnes from different regions at competitive prices. The guy working there is really knowledgeable, polite and helpful. I picked a few bottles and I'll definitely...go back for more!More

Not sure where to begin, the service is well below par, the little stubby waitress an embarrassment and so rude, I cannot believe she is in charge with this bad taste bad attitude. She brings the whole place down which is a shame. I remember...dining last year, there was a French guy who was our wine waiter and a bartender who looked after our table and many others effortlessly, can't remember the name but he was the only guy of colour, such a talented team. We are forced to eat and give up the table, brought over the wrong wine, mistakes with the food order. All in all total chaos. I wish that was the worse of it, one thing I will say is stay away from the service charge, one of the waiters said it actually goes in managements pocket rather than the staff that's why they push so hard for it. So, we book a table for four for 6.00pm and are told when we get there that we are to leave the table by 8.15. Nothing has indicated this on the original booking! After ordering two bottles of champagne and two bottles of wine from...the store (which corkage is due) we are asked to leave the table and go to the bar! We tried to explain that nothing was indicated on the original booking, but they were just not interested. They had their sale and that was all they were focussed on. It is a shame as we have been to the wine bar a couple of times before and had a good evening. The staff were not interested in our complaint at the time. Be careful of this wine bar that is charming on arrival.More
