Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a delightful location which we only discovered by chance recently. Very welcoming staff and a pleasant interior decoration. We only visited for drinks but the atmosphere and ambience were great, coffee excellent, as was the wine. A place to keep in mind next time...we are in this part of London.More

I really love Le Vieux Comptoir. The food is always delicious and served in a wonderful way in a beautiful room. Dependably reliable. I am always delighted to eat here and highly recommend it.

I went to Le Vieux Comptoir with a friend for a long overdue catch up and the restaurant is a wonderful hidden gem. I'm not usually a red wine person, but the Malbec was one of the best I've had! We had a delicious cheese...& charcuterie board to start which came with a basket of bread. We both ordered the Confit de Canard which rivalled one I recently had in Paris. And the service was wonderful. The staff were friendly, welcoming and made lovely conversation The thing which really ruined our evening was a woman and her friends (see KKSpecialAgent's review below). When the staff came to clear their plates she responded by saying 'she could have made better at home' - just incredibly rude. Why didn't she say something before they cleared their plates?! They politely thanked her for her feedback and offered her some bread or a replacement meal, which she declined, before complaining to her friends that she was still hungry. She then spent at least 20 minutes complaining incredible loudly to her friends and all members of staff who came by her table, which ruined the evenings of everyone around her. When the bill came she complained loudly again at the cost, which was very reasonable given three of them had wine, starters and mains. She was so rude that when she went to the bathroom her friends apologised to the staff on her behalf. Honestly, a horrible woman who really impacted my evening! She could have quietly said if there was something wrong with her meal and the restaurant would happily have provided an alternative. Her review is not reflective of the restaurant at all!More

Can forgive when food may not be up to scratch but to order a boeuf bourguignon in a French restaurant that was not edible and was sent back almost untouched and then when asked if meal was ok the attitude was as if I was...looking for a free meal…. If anyone looks at my reviews they will see that I rarely post anything other than positive reviews. Purpose of this review is to perhaps encourage a more amicable approach when a diner is not satisfied! After the difficult time that the hospitality industry has had we all want to give support but this is a two way street… Please take this feedback as way to improve client experience and accept that sometimes things do go wrong and perhaps a better way of handling dissatisfactionMore

We visited this restaurant for an early evening dinner. The place looked very nice with great lighting and pleasant enough staff. However the food was a great let down. I ordered a favourite of mine French onion soup and what arrived was a clear broth...with vastly undercooked onions, I was very disappointed. Our Main of a shared Fondue was equally poor. Not terrible but again just really not very good. As such we did not stay around to try a dessert. A nice bottle of wine but not cheap and as such I really felt the final bill was over the top for what I had received. Had been here before and had liked it so this was a return visit. We will not go again.More

We wanted to stop just for a quick glass but when we went downstairs it was all dark and there was just a couple seated in a corner and nobody else . We thought some of the staff will come but after standing there for...a few minutes looking for someone, we were feeling uncomfortable and akward and we decided to leave. it was just weird. A gem, hidden away on a back-street in Marylebone. The duck liver parfait was excellent as was the rest of our menu as well as the selection of wines through out. The "low-key" atmosphere, good service and absence of any disturbing background music added to...the experience. Highly recommended. will definitely come back.. Oh, forgot to mention the prices. very affordable indeed.More

Went for the first time last night. We had the mixed platter to start and then the Duck Burgers. The food was delicious, the atmosphere wonderful, as was the service. Definitely going to try the Raclette next time! The restaurant is hidden away in a...cosy basement – a secret place in a wonderful part of London. I highly, highly recommend it!More

From start to finish the food and service was amazing.... will certainly be going back. We had a mixture of starters and mains to share so we got to try a good selection. The Beef Tartare was the highlight for me.

I was a little bit apprehensive about coming after seeing some bad reviews- after eating there I feel like these people just don’t understand how restaurants work! It was a wonderful evening with a very nice waitress who made a kind effort to speak both...French and English to our table (my wife speaks French). The food was very good! Wonderful desserts as well. Yes we had to leave a little early because the table was rebooked but the waitress was not rude about it. I am happy that they are getting enough bookings - would be sad to see the place go out of business. will definitely visit again!More

I’ve ordered a portion of bread, and had to pay for the butter coming with it. The confit duck was overcooked, and the snails frozen. I had better dinner experiences at Wetherspoons.

Surprise find! Walking into the restaurant one would not expect to find such and interesting ambience, and a simple but excellent menu. Everything about it is well thought out. Great place for an intimate evening out or a business meeting.

The waitress was very rude to all of us. We were half French and foreign people and she didn’t make any effort to speak English to them, it seems to annoy her. We had for example to ask many times to have a bottle of...water or bread. She took the bottle of wine and fill our glasses without asking if we wanted her to do it just to throw it in the trash so she won’t have to do it later (one of the person were at the toilet and didn’t want more and was surprised to see his glass filled). She didn’t take the time to explain us clearly things so we had to pay more than what we expected. We were surprised that in a French restaurant there is frozen bread which were half unfrozen to eat a fondue. This is a restaurant way too expensive for the quality of the service and the meals. I don’t recommend it if you want to taste a good French restaurant in London.More
