We went there the other week because my husband had heard so many great things about the place. But frankly it was a huge disappointment, both the food and service. The food we had was not special at all, we ordered both starters and main courses. They called it balanced, I call it without flavour. I felt like robbed when I... More

Hi Fiffan56 Thank you for your feedback and sorry to hear that you weren't happy with everything. Sadly not all dishes can be done as a half a portion, we did offer to half 2 of our main dishes as kids portion and charge less but I understand that was not enough. We do pride ourselves on good service and... More

We hired the Birdcage Bar for a private party with 50 people, and couldn't have chosen a better venue. The location was ideal, and the bar itself was the perfect size. Plenty of room to sit and stand, without being so big that we were lost in the space. The bar and bar staff were there just for us, and... More

My fiancé and I had our engagement party in the Birdcage Bar last night and it was absolutely amazing!!! We were so well taken care of and the night was flawless from start to finish. There was no need for us to decorate, the venue was perfect as it is. We had a brilliant cocktail menu but the two fantastic... More

I visited with two friends on the £30 three course meal deal. We were really impressed with the ambience of the restaurant, great service and especially, the quality of the food. Two of us had the warm sole salad starter followed by the quail. Both were delicious and very well presented. My friend was equally impressed with her starter and... More

We celebrated a friend's wedding here last weekend. Nadia could not have been lovelier or more helpful! From correspondence to accommodating our requests to looking after us on the night, she was a real pleasure to interact with. The food and service were both fantastic! As I'm a veggie, I had the risotto. Normally I don't eat risotto as I'm... More

I hired out the private dining room for my company's Christmas office party. The food was very nice and the staff were very helpful and attentive to everyone's needs. After the meal the staff cleared the tables away, we put our music on (they had a lead to connect my iPhone to their sound system) and had enough room for... More

I visited Bird of Smithfield with no preconceptions and came away without any real answers - my scallops were pleasant and my guinea fowl was pleasant and my cheeses were pleasant and the wines were pleasant and the service was pleasant but the room was rather interesting (if a little pleasant ... !). It all felt good but not great,... More

I recently celebrated my birthday in the Birdcage Bar the venue was amazing. The decor is just right, low lighting, fairy lights and mirrors to give a ambient and cosy atmosphere. Nadia and the rest of the staff could not have been more helpful and the 2 bar staff on the night could not have been more attentive making great... More

The restaurant likes a bit dated and tired... but don't let this fool you. The Food is amazing and so beautiful! Every dish was thoughtfully arranged, tastes married, a really fantastic experience. Service was good, but w a lactose intolerant partner, it was a bit tricky for them to manage. I'll happily come back any day!

Staying in City of London

Neighbourhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
