This unassuming-looking building, tucked away in a backstreet behind Aldgate East station, is a great find for great curry. Claiming to be the oldest curry house in the east end, this is the opposite to the Brick Lane tourist offering - just simple, great curry, at great prices, cooking by people who take pride in what they do. It's often... More

Large group visited here and were well looked after by friendly staff. Food was excellent and service first class. Despite our less than organised viewing of the menu (thanks to a lengthy pub session), we were treated very well. Basically the staff couldn't do enough for us and there is no doubt, we will be back.

Hadn't been back for years and years, since first eating here (regularly) almost 30 years ago. Went back a few weeks ago & was astonished at how good it still was. I was in the area again for business and thought, why not. I was not disappointed, Service was excellent, food was outstanding. Took my boss along, he loved it... More

Me and my friend went on Valentine's day and were in for a treat! Really recommend the onion bhaji, brilliant value for money, great service and food, an underrated gem in the heart of East London.

We found this by accident when staying in the area. Its tucked away down a back street and is one of the oldest Indian restaurants in London. Unfortunately it seems as if it hasn't changed much since it opened. However the food is good and the service friendly and has a quaint charm.

Came without reservation and was seated. Reviews online was good so thought I'll give it a try. Dishes ordered were the garlic nan, lamb gosht, and chicken tikka masala. Food were below standard and small portion. They put bowl of onions without you ordering and charge you for that. Service was crap, multiple servers caused confusion. Atmosphere was loud and... This used to be one of my favourite restaurant for a low-key Friday night curry before a few quiet beers. I loved the menu of classic dishes and the old-school vibe. Service always used to be friendly and efficient. Went in with my husband for dinner and after a good meal, the manager said that he had mistakenly undercharged us... More

Coming here regularly for lunch when visiting the London office. Good quality food, great taste. There's a wide range of dishes. The staff is attentive and the kitchen is quick. Don't expect a glamorous interior, but that doesn't matter if the food is good!

The food came exceptionally quickly. We were a larger group of 5 so they seated us in the private room section of the restaurant. The servers were very kind and made us feel welcome. The owner was lovely to chat to, very fun. As we went with my 80 year old grandmother, he helped her walk up and down the... More

Staying in Whitechapel

Neighbourhood Profile
Whether you're here for its dynamic street life, world class galleries or famed curry houses, you're bound to be wowed by the uniquely cosmopolitan flavor of Whitechapel. Long gone are the days when Jack the Ripper stalked its streets. And despite his mysterious legacy bringing throngs of curiosity driven tour groups to its back alleys and otherwise serene garden squares, these days you're more likely to catch a cutting edge fashionista scurrying through its age old lanes than criminals of any sort.
