Sadly the food was not as good as usual. Ale pie had a lot of gristle which is not great considering the price. Was told they buy it in . Maybe check your supplier? Having said that the service was personal and great as usual so did leave a thank you tip. Desert menu very limited I think only 3... More

Not far from Borough Market but not as overcrowded as pubs closer to market. You enter via an entrance to a large courtyard, with a huge number of tables, off Borough High street near London Bridge Underground station, or a short walk from the river. There are a huge number of rooms inside as well. I only had drinks here... More

A real London's pub, friendly and easy, as if you were at your own home. You can simply have a drink or eat typical and fantastic English dishes.

We were in this area and I had read some decent reviews of this being one of the top old British pubs in central London. We were thinking a great place for lunch. When you arrive you locate the entrance door and find a table. There are a number of separate rooms on both the main and upper floor. There... More

Looking for somewhere to have a meal and found this hidden gem. Outside was busy and incredibly noisy so we went inside and up the stairs where there is a restaurant. Its small up there but they managed to fit us in. Its such a quirky building, didn't know what to expect, but needn't have worried as the food was... More

This pub dates back to the early 16 century and Shakespeare is said to have visited although the present buildings date from the 17 Century. The place is picturesque and atmospheric with a large outdoor yard. It is located only a couple of minutes stroll south of London Bridge station. It is worth a visit for the architecture but the... The oldest galleried coaching inn in London. This serves up excellent fish and chips and some excellent ales; try George inn ale, brilliant taste. Well worth a visit.

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
