When traveling in London, I often will stop by for a drink. This time I was with my brother and bumped into a friend from the U.S.

The Duke's had been recommended to me as the place to go for martinis in London. While the atmosphere was nice, particularly in the back room, the drinks felt a little overwrought. I would have been satisfied with a good martini served at the bar. Instead, a needlessly stuffy waitress brought a bar cart around and made acceptable but unremarkable... More

A friend of mine told me about this wonderful establishment and the history surrounding it and so my wife and I joined him one evening. A lot of people moan about the cost, but it's really not much more than many high end hotel bars and when you consider their martinis are STRONG, so last you a long time (in... More

After years of talking about it, we finally went to Dukes Hotel to enjoy their legendary Martini. It was worth every single ££ . We asked for the classic, the Vesper, which is quite different from the standard gin or vodka plus vermouth. The presentation is wonderful: the drink is made at your table. Price-wise not for the faint of... More

Sandro looked after us very well, thanks for an excellent evening. James Bond themed cocktails were the obvious highlight.

This place is a real treat. As a martini lover, the drinks are great (presentation, quality) and the setting feels like classic London. It's a great way to start an evening on the town.

I was so excited to visit Dukes, being a huge James Bond fan and knowing that Ian Fleming may have created the "Shaken, not stirred" martini since he was a regular at Dukes. We waited for 10 minutes for a table for 4 on a Saturday night (not bad). We each had a martini which are delightful and tasty! They... More

Visiting with friends on a Tuesday evening we were led by a london local to his favourite bar for a martini. Hidden away in the streets off Piccadilly is the duke hotel. The service was slow and stuffy and the prices on the high side. The bar itself was nicely decorated and classic in design. On the positive the drinks... More

This is the birthplace of Jame Bond. Even without that distinction it would be a great place to go. The ambience is powerfully historic and charming. The service is something the lord of the manor would expect. Next time in London, I am staying at the hotel.

Staying in St. James's

Neighbourhood Profile
St. James's
Perennially fashionable since the days of Henry VIII, the aristocratic “Clubland” of St James's is a premier destination for high end craft and bespoke design. Here you’ll lose count of the Royal Warrants (which indicate that the Royal Family patronizes the establishment) seen in shop front windows, even during a short stroll to bordering Green Park or St James’s Park. With the brightly lit and constantly buzzing junction of Piccadilly Circus at its northeast corner and none of Central London too far away, this is an surprisingly central and accessible part of town, especially given its prosperous demeanor.
