Located on the junction of Mackets Lane / Lydiate Lane, Halewood, CookHouse Pub & Carvery has something for everyone, with breakfast served from 9am, lunch service from 11.30am, and the carvery opening from midday, there’s plenty of options available until food service finishes at 9pm. At short notice, for a Saturday tea time, I was looking to book for my mums 60th birthday family meal. The CookHouse had been recommended (by the fussiest Vegan I know). An boy, they wasn't wrong!
From the 1st telephone call I knew I was in safe hands. Even if they couldn't have accommodated my request, their customer service was outstanding.
I was called straight back and confirmed they could take my booking of 26 adults & kids. To ensure they couldn't change their mind (haha) I paid the required deposit for the large booking the same day of booking. I wish I could remember the managers name who I spoke with that day and the day of our gathering. An absolute credit to the place.
As it was a large booking you're required to book off a set menu (these included Vegans, Gluten Free & Kids). I'd expect this with being a large group booking, I thought we'd have to pre-book food but we didn't. Absolute bonus not having the responsibility of collecting in the orders from the family.
When paying the deposit, I started to explain that I had a family member who had certain dietary requirements due to health reason, before telling them why, they said I didn't have to explain anymore and to just let them know on the night what they could eat. Some places would want a medical certificate for this, but not here. The relief knowing their needs could be accommodated with no explanation, it may not seem "a big deal" to the person I was chatting with but for me, this was such a relief and meant so much more than they will ever know. Knowing my cousin could order their food and not be challenged, made them feel "normal". Honestly, I can never thank them enough for this.
Food..... not 1 complaint from 26 people. Now that's not something you hear of, there's always 1 person who has to moan. But everyone enjoyed their food, some couldn't eat it all as portions were filling. Meals brought out together for the different tables, no one waiting or having to ask where their food was.
The staff... absolutely amazing. Nothing was too much, neither was the chaos of 26 food orders. They are an absolute credit and the heart of this place.
Cost.... Food bill was approx. £450. That was for food for all 26 people, 5 children and the 21 adults having either 2 or 3 courses. I only mention the price because of the amazing value, the food & service was worth a lot more than the cost.
Overall..... go and eat here.

Lovely food, vibes and service. Classic country pub with spot on British food - we went for the Carvey (which is served everyday!!) and the fish and chips. The Carvey was classic and hit the spot with all the trimmings. Fish and chips were a huge portion, fish was big and very crispy & served with fish shop curry for an extra £2.50! The staff were great and made sure you always had a drink and checked if you needed anything else. The decor is classic British pub with a huge outdoor beer garden (can’t wait to try in the summer!) looked to have a lot of events and things on through the week - pub quiz, live entertainment etc! Will definitely be back to try the all you can eat breakfast!!

Went here for a carvery, really enjoyed it food was very fresh, hot and well presented. We all agreed the food was excellent value and was the best carvery we had had in a long time. We will be returning next month .

Came for a family meal and booked a table for four adults. When we got there we gave our details in and a server took us to our table. She immediately apologised and said she would get someone to clean the table. The table was soaking. We looked through the menu and decided on two meals and two carveries. I went up with my partner to order and we were in a queue for 15 minutes. Meanwhile my mum once again asked the server who seated us could our table be cleaned. There were no napkins or anything at the table for us to do it ourselves. I ordered and the guy behind the bar was really good, I asked for something to be left off my burger because I don’t like it and he went to the kitchen and checked it would be left off as he wasn’t sure it had gone through on the till. I really appreciated that.
You get carvery tokens which can be redeemed straightaway. When my mum finished getting her carvery she once again had to ask for our table to be cleaned. This was getting close to half an hour since the server seated us. As my partner pointed out if they can put a sign on the table to say reserved then why can’t they wipe it at the same time.
The two meals came out quickly which I was impressed with as I worried we wouldn’t eat at the same time as the carvery’s are redeemed straightaway. For what we paid we felt like the food was really good value. We enjoyed the food that much that we decided on deserts.
I was making a list of the deserts to order when a server came up to us and said there’d been an error on the system and we’d have to leave within 5 minutes as our table was occupied. When we booked it said you get two hours and we told the server this. The response was “yes I know”. We hadn’t finished our drinks and had to rush off.
To add insult to injury my family waited outside in the warm weather while I paid as the table was needed “urgently”. Close to 15 minutes I queued for and no one went to the table we were sat on, no one tidied our stuff, no one put a reserve sign. We didn’t get any form of apology off the staff for getting kicked out early because of the error on their system. This was our first visit and will be our last.

Firstly we were greeted with a great smile and shown to our table. Our drinks order was taken straight away. Ordering process for food is either through app or the old fashioned way at the bar. I ordered 8 meals for us all fish, chicken bites, carvery, gluten free meal which Iight add my brother was very surprised at the choice there was. He ordered chicken wings box he Said it was dry and flavourless unfortunately. Reports on the fish was it was delicious as were the chicken.bites and the carvery. Downside was no Guinness??? I ordered moretti draught it was flat I asked could it be changed I got a new drink with a slightly better head but this was still flat.
Some of our party had deserts 1 of which wanted cream with her brownie (my youngest)🤯 this came also with ice cream. We were told we had to.pay £1.50 to add the cream bit shocked by this. It arrived out after being made to pay an addition to the norm it came without ice cream my wife had to ask for this be sent out separately as it came with it.
The issues were only small we had and the staff were quick to resolve.
The disappointment was because the Moretti was flat on both occasions, we were made pay extra for cream instead of an offer of a swap from ice cream and there was no Guinness on sale here (they did have murphys).
I would return again mostly for the carvery but only if I was the designated driver 😂😂

We did recently change from Guiness to Murphys in order to keep up to date with customer response and in order to keep our menu fresh and varied and apologise that this is not to your liking. We have looked into the issue with the dessert and it does look like there was a breakdown in communication with our team and this has been addressed as a training issue in order for it not to happen again.

We chose the carvery for lunch on the bank holiday Monday as it had been recommended. The beef and turkey were quite nice but the gammon was very dry.
The parsnips and carrots were good but the cauliflower cheese was tasteless as well as the gravy
It's a shame that the prices were inflated for a bank holiday especially as the restaurant was very quiet so it wasn't as if the restaurant was busy.
The staff were pleasant and friendly and service was good

As is the case with many other establishments, our Bank Holiday prices are the same as weekend prices rather than ‘inflated’. We have lots of fabulous Daily Deals throughout the week and our £7 carvery is indeed a fantastic offer available every Monday (excluding Bank Holidays). Went here on the spur of the moment early on a Sunday afternoon and I am very glad I did. We had 3 Sunday roasts and a mixed grill. The meat on the the roasts was very generous and you helped yourself to veg. The mixed grill came with a choice of fries or salad, I opted for fries which like the meats were cooked to perfection. The service was quick and the servers were efficient and polite, I will certainly be visiting again.

Had my daughter’s graduation celebration here. The manageress Vicky really looked after us as did all the staff. They helped make our celebration go perfectly. Excellent service . Perfect location as play area for children and luckily the sun shone for us. Whole family commented on how much they enjoyed the day and how excellent all the staff were thank you all so much Food was good really reasonable priced.

A lovely family friendly pub. We went for a carvery last week with our two young children - was perfect for us. Though the pub is quite spacious inside and there were a number of other groups ordering food and drinks our son’s food arrived very quickly after ordering we were able to go and get a tasty carvery and then sit outside in the sun where there’s a lovely little play area for the kids. All the staff we spoke to were welcoming, friendly and helpful. There’s also an ice cream bar for kids after dinner treat - will definitely be coming back soon.

We were a table of 11 for a birthday meal for my grandaughter
We Came in on Monday night
The lady manager helped us order by advising us to write a list
And she would do it for us
Which was much easier
The food was lovely and the team were very attentive and seemed well trained.
We had chicken and chorizo kebab, steak, salmon fillet, Singapore noodles and chicken salad.
The children also enjoyed their meals.
We left after enjoying our dinner.
Unfortunately I foolishly lost my purse
Luckily the manager had found it and kept it for me

We have eaten here plenty of times. But this was the first big booking. We booked a family Christmas meal for 33 people on the 23rd December. When we arrived the tables were all decorated very Christmassy. The staff were very attentive and friendly, as they always are. The food was great as it always is. Drinks brought to the tables. Definitely going to be a new annual family tradition. Along with our regular visits

Our first choice for a local family meal, always great service, plenty of selection on the menu too, including for kids. Prices are fair and always lots of offers on throughput the week, such as kids meal free with a paying adult on Wednesday. Carvery is always good and breakfast buffets in mornings have a great selection. Overall a nice family pub that is well run and great for family time.

After looking at numerous venues for our son's scaled back christening party we approached the Cookhouse about a possible buffet and family meal - and we're so glad we did! Shelly and the reservations team were extremely helpful and accommodating throughout the booking and on the day Vicky and the team were brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was plentiful and fresh.
We wouldn't hesitate to come back again for future events - thank you for everything :-)

Been numerous times before lockdown and the food, drink and service has always been very good. This was the first visit since re-opening after lockdown, expected it to be the same as before.
Unfortunately this time around the service was awful due to being nearly non existant. There where obviously plenty of staff but they didn't appear to think serving customers was a priority.
Considering it was table only service it was 40 minutes before we where able to order our food and first drinks . As i've already said, there didn't appear to be a shortage of staff and the place was half full at most.
This continued for the two hours we spent there, we couldn't grab the attention of any members of staff as they seemed to avoid being anywhere in the vicinity. Looking around at other customers this was a popular theme, customers with empty glasses all around and nobody around taking drinks orders.
We'd intended on staying all night but gave up after finishing our food, looking around for another 15 minutes for anybody to take drinks orders yet again. By the time we'd finally managed to pay our bill and leave for somewhere with better service the place was almost empty. The live music was starting as we where leaving and playing to an almost empty venue. This will be no surprise if this continues if the service continues to be so poor.
How on earth management of the venue didn't seem to notice complete lack of bar activity and most customers with empty glasses is beyond me.
Thankfully, at least the food was very good !

From my experience I feel the management need more experience on the manner at which they speak to customers , have customers aware of rules with children and kitchen closure times.
.
My sons 21st was unfortunately cut short and party of 15 peoples moods were slightly frayed by end of evening.
1. Group menu arranged unavailable
2. Unaware 2 children in our party had to leave at 9pm being told at 9pm , given 15 mins to leave ., bottles of wine still on tables and no deserts possible.
Finally unaware kitchen had closed before 9pm ..; (no deserts) or our birthday cake .
Management did eventually at 9.05pm give permission for birthday cake to be brought out to our tables except on arrival no cutlery ….yet again kitchen had closed .. management eventually again gave permission for cutlery but 2 kids had to leave first .
Kids crying ……
No cake was cut and we all had to leave
I feel the management just wanted us to leave so they could go home. At 9pm bar was empty and cashing up had been done, staff already going home .
I would NEVER of booked this Pub for my son’s SPECIAL OCCASION having been aware of these rules .
On a positive note the food was very enjoyable.
