Although we did have to wait for about ten minutes to be seated, it was well worth it for the friendly, efficient service and the tasty, fresh sandwiches. Recommended: the Lincolnshire sausage, cheese and apple toasted sandwich. A nice, old fashioned ambience and the waitresses wear uniforms to match, with black dresses and white pinafores and caps. A good place... More

As always, a great coffee (the house blend is very good indeed) and the view from the upper dining room adds a little extra something!

Probably the best tasting and value Afternoon Tea in the city. Highly recommended!! Stokes are the best coffee shop in Lincoln and makes the national brands very ordinary. Don't miss it!

I visited here for a quick pit stop with my 8 year old daughter after shopping and before going to the cinema! It was my first time, and we asked to sit upstairs, the lady checked her iPad and said we should be able to find a table on the top floor - we did!! The view looking out on... More

Called in for brunch while on a shopping trip, the smell of coffee hit us as we entered the shop where we were met and shown to a table up two flights of narrow stairs. The whole place is ancient and the waitresses dress accordingly. Good selection of hot and cold food and reasonably priced. Great place to shop for a bite... More

Dear Guest, It is wonderful to read your review of Stokes High Bridge Café. The smell of freshly roasted coffee is indeed enticing and the café itself dates back to 1540 whereas the bridge it is built upon was constructed in 1160 We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Many thanks, The folks at Stokes. More

A lovely location - built on the bridge itself - great coffee, pleasant staff - waitresses dressed on old tea-shop uniforms, little pinnys & all. Utter bliss and not a 'C' word in sight!

Stopped to have a coffee while waiting for our train home and considering I only normally drink coffee in Portugal, this was even better and that's a hard thing to beat. Will definitely call in again on my next trip to Lincoln.

Eight of us booked a table for a work colleagues celebration. Tow of us had afternoon tea and the others had sandwiches. The waiter memorised all of our order including hot drinks and got everything right. He was a bit of a character and quite fun. The afternoon tea was really great value (£21 for 2). After the sandwiches, lemon... More

Called into today to take a break for lunch. We ordered 2 cheese and ham toasties, 1 pot of tea and a coffee. Unfortuantly after quite a wait the 2 toasties and tea arrived luke warm. On speaking to the lad who served us he did say sorry and said the reason was because it had been stuck on the... More

Dear Guest, How disappointing to read your review. Can I start by apologising for the poor quality of your toasted sandwiches. I always like to investigate reviews that are poor, and I have asked a few questions to try and establish what happened. The waiter that served you, has explained to me that there was an issue with the lift... More

Description
The High Bridge is the only medieval bridge in England with houses upon it. The timber framed houses built in 1540 were bricked over in the 19th century covering up all their charm. Fortunately, a restoration of the fine medieval-style building took place in 1902 under the supervision of Lincoln architect William Watkins whereby the houses were stripped down to the beams, before being re-plastered. Most of the timber beams visible today are original, dating back to the 1600's. During the renovation, carvings of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra were added in the top corners of the building to celebrate their Coronation which took place that same year. The unique features of the underside of the bridge can only be seen by boat, but the interior of the building can be appreciated whilst enjoying a coffee or tea at Stokes High Bridge café, the occupants since the early 20th Century.
