We went into the Sun Cafe after seeing the sign reading "fresh seafood chowder". The place is literally tiny and were lucky enough to find a small table for two. Proceeded to have the aforementioned chowder and were not disappointed at all. It's served with mussels and cod fish in it and is the definition of comfort food - creamy,... More

We visited here for brunch on our drive back from the lakes. The two ladies running the cafe were an absolute delight- so friendly and chatty. Service with a smile! 3 of us ordered the potato hash with egg and the other ordered the chowder. The hash was a large serving and it was so tasty we had to eat... More

After stopping in Hawkshead for a bite to eat and being stuck between lunch and dinner serving times in the pubs we found ourselves in this quirky place. Burgers were fantastic and cake takeaway brilliant! Very tiny inside but only added to the cosy feel of the place. Wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea but we certainly enjoyed.

This little cafe is perfectly situated in Hawkshead near the Beatrix Potter Gallery in the Lake District. They make HUGE, yummy cakes and serve hot, delicious tea which hits the spot after walking through Beatrix Potter country. The service is friendly and efficient even during very busy periods. I would definitely recommend having a nibble here.

The vary large cakes in the window caught our eye but after our very tasty lunch we didn't have room to try any. Good value for money and very cosy, loved the decor. Thank you.

We really enjoyed our lunch here! I had the soup of the day, which was tomato, carrot and coconut cream with a slice of bread, and my husband had the smoked pastrami sandwich and fries. Everything was gorgeous, fresh and so tasty. The soup had a kick to it but not at the expense of the flavour. The bread was... More

Tasty cup of tea but the cake was really disappointing. Yes, it was a huge slice but was dry and tasted stale...the filling was definitely not made with fresh cream - tasted artificial, was going crusty and set firm. Real shame because the cakes looked great on the stand. A nice spot for a cuppa but save your money and... More

Very quaint cafe but a little claustraphobic Our group tried 3 of the very large slices of cake which tasted lovely and light .I was suprised however that the cakes were not covered with people coming and going very unhygienic. Please buy some plastic covers .Very pleasant staff but beware of sitting down before you are told to.

Our family of four manage to squeeze in for lunch on a rainy Tuesday - this cafe is small and popular. My sons both had the New York Ruben sandwiches made with home smoked brisket. I had some homemade seafood chowder with cod and mussels and my husband had homemade pea and ham soup. All were delicious! We couldn't manage... More
