After making a last minute booking for the same day lunch time, we were delighted that they could squeeze 15 of us in. Walked in to a beautiful warm cosy pub, was greeted by a lovely happy young lady who showed us to our table. It was quite busy but the staff handled it fantastically. The food was scrumptious ,... Booked a table for 8. 6 adults and 2 children. Upon arrival we were taking to our table and our drinks orders were took and menus handed to us. Our drinks arrived quickly along with colour pencils and colouring pages for the children. ( lovely personal touch ) We all ordered something different from the menu, food was beautiful and... More

The Ship used to be a regular haunt of ours but with the several changes in management of late its been a while since we visited this hostelry. So 20 of us booked for dinner on Saturday night to see what it was like. The first impression upon walking up to the bar for a drink on entering the Ship... More

Chosen at random to have lunch with long standing friends, not seen for quite some time. Cosy and welcoming dining room. Efficient and friendly service , all topped off with a splendid meal. Will certainly be making more visits, based on todays experieced.

Add per the title really. Nothing fancy but we'll cooked, piping hot with generous portions; I've rarely seen so many scampi on one plate! Desserts were the usual classics: sticky toffee, brownie, cheesecake et al. Three of us with drinks and two desserts came to £53, which was decent value. Service front of house was uninspiring yet fine for the... More

My family and I have been visiting the Dovenby Ship for years and mostly go on a Sunday, which is always busy and for good reason. They always have Beef and Turkey on and quite often Lamb. The portions are generous but smaller ones are available. The best thing about the ship is the consistency of the food they put... More

Nice place with new owners who are very friendly and in the process of upgrading it. Food was good and served at any time (sounds strange but that is amazing for the area). It also has wifi which again is amazing for the area. When we were there you could only have 1 phone at a time on it but... More

We visited here as a group of 4, luckily had a table booked as it was a busy Saturday night. 2 of our party ordered steak which when it arrived, left them a bit disappointed. It was served on a huge plate however only really filled half and also seemed half a portion size to what we had seen go... More
