On the half a dozen or so occasions that I have visited Hastings I have always enjoyed fantastic fresh from the sea fish and chips at the Mermaid. It's always been worth walking past so many other places,to eat here. Fish and chips at The Mermaid has always been the highlight of a visit to Hastings. Today was the first... More

Brought take away fish and chips here to eat on the beach. cost about £8 for a portion. Was enough to feed myself and my 5 year old. Tasty. Quite expensive and quite average.

We went for lunch at the Mermaid Cafe, following a recommendation in our travel guide. Naturally, as tourists, we opted for the Fish and Chips, but were very disappointed, as the dish was completely different from what our guide had promised. It was way too fatty and the fries and peas had obviously been frozen. The fish was tasteless and... More

First we saw the 5 hygiene rating and that this was the busiest restaurant around, so grabbed a table. we had the medium cod and chips for 3 and they were simply the best that we have ever had. Perfectly crispy batter and chips and firm fish. The other pleasant surprise was coffee in a mug. No fancy frills or... More

Myself and my family have been coming to the mermaid for years! We never see the same member of staff twice but service is always great and the cod is the best I've tasted. Would highly recommend this little restaurant, you won't be disappointed 5***

We were in Hastings for a walk along the beach and decided to drop into the Mermaid for fish and chips after the walk. We hadn't been to the Mermaid for a while but can confirm that it's still as good as ever. Can't beat sitting watching a stormy sea from the warmth of the car with probably the best... More

Recommended for a proper breakfast or fish and chips. As basic and good as it gets. Proper mugs of tea. What could be better?

Just brilliant for solid British breakfast and lunch, excellent mug of tea. Could do with a spring on the door! So busy it was a distraction all the people leaving the door open on a February morning.Came back after 18 years and still wonderfully the same!

Popped in for a fish and chip lunch on way to arcade. Superb fish and chips. Not at all greasy and lovely flavour. Good value, lovely service and friendly atmosphere. Always busy which is a good sign!

Visited Hastings today and won the argument as to where we should eat! It was cold, but because we had our dog with us we decided to brave the Arctic conditions and huddle into a corner. Dog satisfied as she was offered a sausage - didn't argue too much! The haddock and chips with mushy peas - delightful and washed... More
