My family and I got into Brighton around 9:30 and quickly noticed many restaurants were closing for the evening. A passer by recommended Cafe Rouge as an option open til 11. My family arrived at 10:00. We were promptly sat, our order was taken and our food arrived right away. Our choices were spot on, the children ordered burgers, my... More

Now I'm a great fan of Cafe Rouge despite the franglais throughout. You know the baskets marked "baguettes" and "cheese", The good but not quite authentic feel of a French cafe...more an imagined one. Nice but not quite like the real thing. Well after 2 excellent starters of pate with toast, I eagerly awaited our steak frites with real anticipation... More

Food was shockingly poor after waiting over an hour for a few baguettes and a salad. Tuna in the salad had an awful smell coming from it, was either off or had been seared on a filthy grill. It was also inedible. Waiter Tobias also felt the need to comment "what now" when it was brought to his attention, and... More

Entering the restaurant we established eye contact with several waiters, but no one greeted us. So we scouted through the restaurant to find a table ourselves. Ordering drinks and two main dishes went fine, and the drinks came fast and were quite good. Then came the waiting for the food... We had ordered a tagine and a ribeye, medium-well. When... More

Had to wait 40 minutes for food & waiting staff were pretty unfriendly. They brought the wrong side for me, which was cold & my son's starter & main at the same time. Didn't bother to complain as just wanted to leave. People were coming in and waiting for a seat but the staff just ignored them for ages and... More

Poorly cooked food and generally in need of a good clean is the quick story. In full that means a grubby restaurant, steak charred black on the outside while still cold in the middle and then a trip downstairs to filthy toilets. Just to make things worse the kitchen is next to the said toilets with the door open and... More

I have been visiting Café Rouge bi~annually when my french father visits. This time though, I have to say that the generic, but usually decent, food was well below par. If I had been alone or paying the bill (!), I would have sent it all back. Everything was over~cooked, dry and fairly dreadful. On the plus side, the staff... More

If you enjoy waiting an hour for food that takes 10 minutes to make, only for it to be cooked to death on a grill that probably hasn't been cleaned for a good few months, then this is the place to be. Not only that, but the waitress and waiter had a foul attitude on them when we complained (after... More
