I love the dim sum particularly, tempura king prawn, teriyaki salmon, char Sui buns it's all delicious. Will be definitely visiting again.

The food here was amazing, the service was really fast and the servers were friendly. Was a bit pricier than normal Chinese places but was definitely worth it

My friends and I visited Gars for a birthday celebration recently and had a fantastic night! The food was amazing, as always, and the service second to none. When you first go in it feels small but as soon as you go upstairs it opens up into a modern, stylish area. The staff were very good and served us well.... More

Visited with friends on a busy Saturday night. Owner/manager was very welcoming and served us impeccably. Food was good. Can recommend soft shell crab for starters. Variety of mains - roast duck, chicken yellow curry were the best, but all of high standard. Will return.

We came across Gars on our way to meet friends. We both love dim sum and we're not disappointed but dining in Gars. Place looks clean, tidy, specious with a good selection or dishes and nice atmosphere. Staff is polite however I feel they could've been more trained from their food selection perspective however, they try the best. Food is... More

Small ground floor but much larger and impressive upstairs (and the window tables have a good view of the street below). Open all day on Saturday, so great for a late lunch. Small menu but good food - tasty and well-presented. Good wine list. Friendly and attentive staff. Not cheap for a Chinese but well worth it (£100+ for two,... More

Visited for Sunday lunch and the food was delicious! It was perfect to be able to order from the special dim sum menu as well as the a la carte. The service was great too - very attentive even though it was busy. Would definitely come again and recommend.

I have been to a lot of Chinese restaurants and this is exceptionally the best. We were a party of 4 and had lunch on a Sunday, feasting on Dim sum (tapas style dishes) and a la carte menu. I would recommend the Dim sum if you want something filling but not too heavy, so we did a mixture !!!!... More

Came here for a late Sunday lunch. Restaurant was neither too busy nor too quiet, surprising for a Sunday afternoon. Service was very swift and efficient, but we never felt rushed. Staff were accommodating, and let us order from both the dim sum and main menus. Highlights were the ribs. My brother-in-law doesn't usually like ribs, but even he thought... More

A Brighton institution in the heart of the famous Lanes, Gars has been serving Chinese food with attitude for nearly 30 years. This family-run restaurant is smart, sophisticated and streamlined, with polished bamboo flooring and modern silk shades. It’s set over three floors, with a private function room and bar downstairs (with the possibility of karaoke if the mood takes you), a ground-floor section with red-leather panelling and soft lighting, and the first-floor dining rooms. The food is a clever mix of classic and modern Chinese, alongside other Asian favourites like Thai green curry and salmon teriyaki. Start with tender beef carpaccio served with sesame and chilli dressing, then dither between fresh scallops in black bean sauce, lamb shanks with ginger and spring onions or the sensationally savoury Cantonese roast duck.
