A large group of us went for a Sunday roast today. The food was tremendous, especially the pork belly. The service was great - which wasn't easy because we turned up with more people than booked and were generally disorganised. We really appreciated the service with a smile!

Great gastro pub. Lovely couple that own/run it. Food is really tasty. This is not cheap but food quality is great and you feel well looked after. Its a great treat

I feel extremely lucky to have The Jolly Poacher just around the corner. I have had several mid-week lunches, dinners and a Sunday roast and they have all been fantastic. My last visit was last week and the venison main with fondant potatoes was executed excellently. The venison was served lightly pink and was very tender, the potatoes, veg and... More

Had the 2 for £15 sausage and mash and it was very tasty with great gravy. Happy hour 4-7 and nice little pub for a meetup in a good location near the station

The Jolly Poacher is literally 5 minutes away from where we live and as they were offering a New Years Eve food and general jolly up we decided to give it a go. £49 per person for 4 courses in my view given the time of year was reasonable. The food was excellent well cooked and tasty. The only 2... More

Christmas dinner at £35 should be good - but by the end we felt our wallets had been poached. Not jolly at all. A bread platter with dolls house size loaf on it, for sharing between six. Starters good; mains decent tho' with a very thin offering of veg on the plate. It's Christmas! Maybe some roast potatoes or even... More

So we spent £55. One starter, two mains, two glasses of wine and one pint of beer. I'd say that's pretty expensive and you would expect something reasonably good. What we got was bland and lacking in style. Only one beer available (admittedly a nice Harvey's) and I think a pub should have more than one type on tap. The... More

We have been looking forward to going to the Poachers for a long time. When we arrived on a Saturday evening we were the only people there - it was very dark and when we said this to the waitress she agreed, but we still had to use our mobile phones to light up the menu. The starters were fine,... More

The service was poor. Food was bland and barely warm. I mentioned to waitress that we weren't happy but received no feedback although we were the only diners (table of 6) so chef not over stretched. When leaving the restaurant the owner/chef was at the bar with friends so I approached him saying we were disappointed with the food &... More

The food here was excellent - the venison being a particluar highlight alongside the triple cooked chips - I'd go back just for those. A little on the expensive side but good nonetheless. The service was also great - we were a large group and every effort was made to keep us happy. Will defintiely be returning!
