We booked in as a party and were shown to our table on the first floor, getting there was an experience in itself. The place is like an art gallery with things of interest everywhere. The building is on various levels with nooks and crannies everywhere. Had you wanted a discrete meal or a family gathering this place had the... More

This is one of our local pubs, and we are super lucky, It never fails to provide exactly what we are after, whether it's a casual meal downstairs, or something a little fancier up in the restaurant.

Make no mistake this is an outstanding pub. It is also a great antidote to the sanitised hotel bar of the Hilton Metropole where I stayed for a firm do. If you are staying there, it is well worth venturing 5 minues away from the seafront to check out to Lion and Lobster. The layout is fascinating. The reviewer who... More

This pub used to be our local so we were excited to revisit for a friends birthday dinner as the food used to be excellent. To put it bluntly the food was terrible. There were 12 of us and the table was booked for 8. We didn't get our meals until 10pm and two of the meals were missing, they... More

We were looking for somewhere to eat at short notice, aware that it was a Six Nations Rugby weekend. We tried the Lion & Lobster and initially thought that it would not be possible as the ground floor of Rugby watchers. However, this pub is on many levels and the third floor was relatively free, with its own bar and... More

Stayed in an hotel a few mins walk away. If you like a proper side street boozer, with character, that serves a decent pint of ale, this is for you ! It obviously caters for the food market ( I didn't see the menu ) as well ...... but as it's a little out of the way and off the... More

At ground level this looks like a cosy old pub with an open fire. Inviting enough to venture in and check it out. Make your way upstairs and you will find a wonderful surprise. Elegantly furnished and spread over a number of small rooms this gastro delight will soothe the senses. The mains and deserts are outstanding as is the... More

We couldn't believe how big the pub is - it is a Tardis and it goes onward and upwards in all directions. The food was sublime - and for me, the chilli and ginger Crabcakes were the pinnacle - this was lunch so I had 2 starters rather than a main course, but my husband's traditional fish and chips and... This had always provided reasonably priced food and drink but since new ownership it has become overpriced having kept the same standard. The Sunday Roasts are very good but other outlets provide cheaper alternatives at the same standards and it gets packed full of drinkers and uncomfortable
