I wanted something reliably good as a pre-birthday dinner where I could take the dog. This was, as always, a good choice. A great wine selection, with recommendations from the waiter. A fine fish platter. All good.

I'd heard good things about Plateau and tried it out when I arranged lunch with a couple of friends down from London. It has a nice ambience, and on balance I'd recommend it. However, do move tables if they give you one where staff need to jostle you to reach other diners, and don't hesitate to speak up about poor... More

What a wonderful experience. Knowledgable, engaged staff. Excellent food and an amazing natural wine list. As well as a great place to eat Plateau has an excellent bar to sit at and an expert bartender. A must visit.

While the place/food have great potential, our experience here wasn't particularly positive. The steak I had arrived cold and I struggled to digest it later in the day, the chips were just soaked in frying oil and oax cheek not that impressive either. The panna cotta (which I think was £8) was ridiculously small. The bill was also wrong as... More

We were recommended Plateau by the owners of our guest house and we were not disappointed We were lucky to walk in when we did as the next people to arrive were told the kitchen was shutting, Very friendly and efficient servers. We chose a fish platter to share and it was plentiful. The fish was cooked to perfection with... More

The place was buzzing and clearly popular. We weren't hungry when we arrived for our table reservation just before 9pm, but by the time we actually got our starter of a dozen oysters, I was just about to lose the plot!! The staff was most apologetic, but a dozen oysters shouldn't take 30 minutes to serve. Having asked twice we... More

We had supper here with family, a table of 4, early on a Saturday night. The chef really knows whats what. The ham hock pakoras to start were superb. I'd ordered a vegetarian main, so kept those to the side - there were 3 and they were very generous. My main was a cauliflower steak, which sounded unappealing but was... More

This was the best eating experience I've had in recent months. The small interior - a subtle mix of industrial metal seating, exposed brickwork and subdued lighting - gives a contemporary but cosy feel as does the relaxed style of eating explained by the waiter. The emphasis is on sharing, trying, mixing it up and eating in whatever way makes... More

Description
Independent bar à vin, restaurant & cocktail bar based in The Lanes, BrightonWe are a unique bar à vin & restaurant with a passion for great food & wine. We have put a great deal of time & love into selecting our wines. At Plateau you can discover interesting & affordable wines that you are unlikely to see on other local wine lists. Our selection is mostly natural with some biodynamic & organic examples. We have sourced wines from local Sussex producers to renowned names & newcomers. To soak up the wine we serve ‘bites’, small dishes perfect to share or great as a starter. Follow your ‘bites’ with a ‘plateau’ to share or a 'plat' & that’s our dinner experience… although don’t forget dessert! Our chefs source organic, fresh, local produce as much as possible.Did we mention the cocktails? They’re probably the best in town & although we don’t serve Carlsberg we do serve some pretty imaginative beers from around the world. We have some top quality spirits, including some rare rum, whisky & cognac…and I almost forgot, keep an eye out for the ‘cocktail de la semaine’ & ‘beer of the moment’.There is no set way to visit Plateau, you can match the wine to the food or the food to the wine. Pop in just for a drink, a few bites or a three-course meal – the idea is that you do whatever suits you.
