Sadly our welsh rarebit was full of salty ham and the limp accompanying salad not dressed. Very disappointing as last year we had such a delicious sandwich and cream scone. Delightful building and sch a pretty garden where some people were eating.

Lovely experience. I see some terrible reviews and they seem to date from a while ago. Our experience was quite the opposite. We sat in the garden and loved the generous helpings of food and the porcelain. There were even hats on offer to customers...More

I love love love this place. The staff are all super friendly meaning dining on your own is not at all akward. I happened to be driving through Alfriston at lunchtime today and I remembered this gem so I parked up and popped into the...More

Nice old fashioned tea rooms in the village centre. Parking 20 yards away. Small garden area and close packed tables inside. We had the signature Victoria sponge with gooseberry and elderflower cream filling. Superb!

We visited this quaint tea room on our walk around the area and sat in a lovely cottage garden. I had the Elderflower & Gooseberry Victoria sandwich which was really light, the lightest I have ever tasted. With this I had a pot of Earl...More

There is a nice small garden with the local sparrow population demanding protection ‘money’. Rather charming to see the birds aerobatic displays. Food is very good and the service is a little slow. We were warned that it may take a while which is fine,...More

We said we would never go back to Badgers as we have had terrible service twice in the past. But we gave it a try again today and very glad we did! We have to sit in the garden as we have a dog and...More

Went for lunch with a friend, have a lovely garden but we sat inside. A good choice for lunch and cakes. We ordered just after another couple who had sat down just before us. And despite getting our drinks first, the other couple had got...More

After a walk to the beach, we were in need of coffee and cake. Where better than The Old Village Bakery - or Badgers Tea Rooms? We were slightly disappointed when we entered as the tables were all taken......but then we noticed the garden courtyard...More

Heavenly afternoon tea. Traditional cream tea met all expectations but the gooseberry and elderflower and fresh cream sponge was the lightest, best sponge I've ever tasted. Huge slice and ever mouthful was sheer delight!

Description
Welcome to our historic tea house! Alfriston was granted its market charter in 1406, and the house at Badgers dates from 1510 – over 500 years old! We know it was the village bakery for 200 years until 1933, and proprietor Michael Luttig and manager Lynn Attfield continue the tradition of exceptional baking on the premises. “Dissenters” from St Andrews Church met here in the late 18th Century until they built their own independent church (now the United Reformed Church) in 1801. We even have a Standing Stone in the pavement outside the front door…
