Having read and heard great things about the Beer Engine under new management, we were very excited to try it out for lunch today with family. The setting is really nice and the pub is welcoming. The menu is quite extensive and it was nice to see that smaller portions can be ordered of main dishes when dining with children... More

We had an excellent lunch today for ten people. Three course meal, good roasts for Sunday with huge Yorkshire pudding. Fish pie was tasty and good choice of desserts, all very good. We ate there two years ago and the service was poor but the staff today were happier and the ambiance positive. Highly recommend but booking essential.

Three of us went for a family meal and from the moment we entered we received the friendliest of welcomes. The food was excellent with generous portions and a good choice. The desserts were particularly good. The pub dates back to the 1850s and there is also a micro brewery on site for the beer lovers amongst you. For the... More

We dined here on Saturday 8th April, the meals we had were excellent. I chose the lamb which was on the specials board, it was delicious, the lamb was so tender, the combination of potatoes, feta cheese and courgette was full of flavour, I would definitely recommend this dish. My husband chose the battered fish (cod) accompanied by 'the best... More

I called in with a friend for coffee. They only serve full fat milk. Enough said. I won't be returning.

My brother came over from Brussels so we booked a table (8 people) at the Beer Engine for a family dinner, we'd heard good reports so off we went. Really nice country pub, friendly, nice atmosphere, all ordered different mains. I pinachu steak and was told it would be served pink, with braised red cabbage and green beans ... unfortunately... We had Mothers Day Lunch and it was Excellent. We were worried because they are under new management and weren't sure if we could risk it but we were really happy! All 3 courses are all of a high standard and very large portions. Great atmosphere. We will be going back again for sure ..

Good food, buzzy, welcoming atmosphere – a pub that has got it just right. Standard meals very large but most available as small portions.

We always enjoy coming here for the original and excellent food. This time we started with very good prawn and crab fish cakes with a dill mayo, followed by venison (which was far too much) with a lovely sauce, dauphinoise potatoes and nicely cooked vegetables. You need to book - even in the early evening, it was crowded.

It has been a couple of years since I was last at the Beer Engine and it was once my local. Great to see that the current owners have managed to achieve that fine balance between being both a pub with a lively bar trade and a fantastic place to eat. The food was well presented and priced appropriately for... More
