Unlike many other pubs in Chester you got the feeling most of the visitors were locals, but this wasn't a problem. Pub fills and empties several times over the night as parties come and go, so you get the feeling the pub is full as it's 6 deep at the bar, and then 10 mins later the bar is empty.... More

Another trip to Chester and to this pub, went to try the food this time and I was not disappointed, the best chunky chips ever had and both our meals were delicious. This will always be one of the places that we will return to each time we go to stay in Chester. Staff very efficient and polite.

We hade a wonderful lunch here. Roast potatoes were to die for. The the lovely guy behind the bar was very knowledgeable about the wines they had on offer. Atmosphere was great. There was football on in the other room so my Husband was able to keep up with the score. Perfect Sunday afternoon, will definitely go again and again.

Went for engagement party and tried to order food only to be told the choices were limited, no pork, not enough chicken, when meals arrived the plate was overloaded, poorly presented, the Yorkshire pudding was far to big and burnt, the chicken was over cooked and the roast potatatoes were hard, probably cooked hours earlier and kept warm, overall not... Good afternoon, Firstly I am very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your visit. On the day in question we had been particularly busy (quite unexpectedly) and as you were dining slightly later on in the day, then we had unfortunately sold out of the pork roast and had a limited amount of chicken left. I can only... More

Lovely traditional English pub with a relaxing atmosphere. Perfect place for all ages, for quiet drink or food, it is a lot bigger than you think there is the pub down stairs with further restaurant space upstairs. We were celebrating my nans birthday, table of 11. The food was great and reasonably priced for a city centre pub. The service... More

Called in this eve just before sundown, hungry and hoping for a good meal. My coronation chicken baked potato with salad and coleslaw was absolutely delicious. Oven baked of course. Friendly staff, olde building, 1604 I think, quaint pub, great history and a stones throw from the weir at the River Dee. I recommend.
