We went to this pub after terrible service at The Plough nearby. The service and food were very good and a very reasonable price, they do 2 main meals for £16 at lunchtime Monday to Saturday.

Booked table as last time pretty busy but that was some time ago. No need to book not many diners and obviously new owners.Menu unimaginative and short and no meat pie ordered F &. C which was ok .Lounge area rearranged with more tables put in it.No atmosphere when we were there. Will not be rushing back

This was our first visit under the new management and we were a bit worried that it had changed hands again. A bit cool when we arrived but once the log burner got going it was soon up to the normal warmth. The menu had a good selection especially as 2 of us were vegetarians. All the food was very... More

I arranged a family reunion at this pub today and was so disappointed by the meal and the general ambience. It use to be a warm, cosy thriving establishment but today it was cold, almost empty and a 'cash only' notice up behind the bar. The menu was not inspiring and when our food eventually arrived, we looked at it,... More

I have eat here three times and can honestly say this place has always been consistent. The service is friendly the food is well cooked, good sized portions and pretty quick in coming. Pretty reasonably priced too. Nice setting for a pub/restaurant too.

Visited this pub at the weekend. Our party of eight had spent a magical day in Cambridge attending the graduation ceremony of one of our fellow diners. The restaurant room at the pub is very small which is not in itself a problem unless you have, as we did, the great misfortune of sharing the celebrations with noisy fellow diners... More

We called in The Ancient Shepard, on our way home to Grimsby, after being at the Virtual Aviation, Cambridge Airport. Such a lovely cosy, warm place to spend your time. Staff are friendly and service was quick. We had the squid starter, which was cooked beautifully, not chewy at all, my partner had the stilton ploughmans, which he said was gorgeous... More

Just home from celebrating my Mothers 80th birthday, we had an age range from 3 to 82 and all had a great time. The food was lovely and the gap between each course perfect, we had an area to ourselves so it meant we could take pictures without intruding on other guests. The staff could not do enough for us.
