We recently visited this pub for a family celebration on a Sunday lunchtime. There were 28 guests for lunch, the staff were very helpful if a little unprofessional at times but the lunch more than made up for this. This is the best Sunday roast i have had at a pub for a long time. I had the three meat... More

On Friday my mum booked a table for 3 of us to have lunch at the George, on arrival the car park was very busy and so was the bar when we entered. We went to the bar and explained we had a table booked at 12.45 and was told by the barman that there was a wait on food.... More

Arranged to have Sunday lunch here with a group of friends, the table was booked for 1.00pm. The place was very busy when we arrived at 12.45 and we had to ask one of the staff which was our table, we sat for ages waiting for someone to bring us some menus but no-one came so one of our party... The staff were very pleasant when we went for lunch today, however the same couldn't be said of the food. Three of us ordered food from the specials board, two were supposed to be Goan Fish Curry with extra spice and one Mushroom and Red Pepper Stroganoff. As far as we could tell they were exactly the same base -... More

We booked a table for 2:30 on a Sunday. On arrival we were told that they had no roasts left and as they had just had a table of 28 sit down there would be an hour and a half wait on food. To top it off they charged us £3.25 for two pints of lime and soda. We asked... More

Visited on Dec 29th at lunchtime, the pub was busy but not heaving. The ambience is nice with lots of different areas for drinking and eating. The beer selection was OK for a Green King pub, they had a nice guest beer on. The wine selection by the glass was good. The menu was varied, the quality of the food... More

I went with a large party for a Christmas dinner. We had all ordered our food in advance so the staff knew exactly what to expect but they just didn't seem to be ready for us. The main courses were brought out piece meal so that some people had finished eating before others had even started. The roast potatoes were... More

I am surprised to see the average reviews on here as I found the George Inn to be way above average. Extensive menu choice, welcoming staff, nice interior and one of the best pies I've eaten (you must try the chicken and ham pie!) Overall paid £15 for my main and one soft drink including tip. Didn't have room for... More

Called in for a couple of beers . The staff were welcoming and friendly. Beer was good. Ordered a sausage and Onion Caibatta. Sausages were some of the cheapest and appear to be deep fried. Would be a lot better if they invested more with pan fried quality sausage especially for £5.95. Very uninspiring food.

We used to go to the George a few years ago and I read the reviews before our latest visit. I don't think it deserves the bad reviews. Beer (IPA) was very good. 3 of our party had Ham Egg and Chips which all enjoyed...good size portions as well for the price. One Chicken burger which was nice. I had... More
