Oceana has been a fixture on Haida Gwaii since the mid 1990s. Like many of the Chinese restaurants on island, this place has changed hands countless times over the last couple of decades. Because of that, for much of its operating life, the food has been hit or miss, moving from really good to not so good and back again,... More

Love the view. Food was ok. Served its purpose and we were grateful to have several meals there while we were getting established.

My husband and I were starving when we arrived at the restaurant around 4:30 in the afternoon. We'd had a long day of exploring with little to no food. We started ordering dishes, about 5 in all, knowing we would be taking some back to our campsite for the following day. What we didn't expect was the huge amount food... More

what did you expect eating chinese food on a remote island chain? the food is fine, seems better than the other chinese place as I didn't notice any MSG headache post-honey garlic. anywhere else the prices would be outrageous, even for the heaping mounds of meat-and-carb they provide, but this is Haida Gwaii, so.

Went with friends for lunch as they said it was good. Well first impression.....not good! The restaurant was in dire need of a good cleaning! I only hope the kitchen was cleaner. Service was good, polite and food was quick. I was very disappointed in my order however. Chow Mein & Egg roll. Chow Mein very "old grease" taste and... More

As this was right next door to our accomodation and the pizza place had run out of pizza, this was our next choice. BAD choice. Service was prompt but our meals arrived on a pyrex pie plate - oodles and oodles of the driest noodles ever! I had ordered ginger beef, my husband the garlic chicken and our grand- daughter... The owner was really nice and did his best but the food was awful. His recommendation was his pad Thai (strange for a Chinese restaurant) came out on a giant lid, and tasted more like ketchup than pad Thai. Pretty bad but the guy was doing his best.

Oh, just what we needed after a long day of travelling and nearly 9 days camping. We asked for the fries extra crispy and the hamburger was delicious. We were all pleased with our meals - generous portions and great food. Like everything over there, the prices are high but at least it was a big enough meal. I would... More

One of the worst dining experiences of my life. Portions were huge, but we left over half on the table. Prices high. Made the mistake of sitting by a window. The 15 or so flies trying to get out of the place never once approached our food. Made me queasy.
