Lovely spot, nice clean restaurant on the beach. Great for children and adults alike. Very friendly staff. Great food and service. Portions are very generous for a Japanese restaurant. They have a kids menu too which is also very generous but dinner all sorter with a "doggy" bag. My 7 year old grandson even tried Octopus for the first time and loved it.

Went there for a family dinner to celebrate a 21st and it was excellent. The food and service were outstanding. We had the signature dishes set menu and there was more then enough food, they were also very good about catering for an allergy and even made a separate dipping sauce in regard to this.
It is expensive but well worth what we paid, would highly recommend this restaurant and am looking forward to going back again.

Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The seafood was very fresh and everything was served simply but tastefully. The only complaint I have is the lack of variety in the nigiri. Choices such as tobiko, unagi, and uni would add colour and interest to the menu.

In a beautiful location, across the street from the beach, Tokyo Bay is a great kick off to your weekend.
Plenty of public parking near by.
You enter the beautifully appointed restaurant in Takapuna and immediately know you are in for a treat.
Service was on point and they never let your glass get empty before they appeared at the table ready to serve you.
We tried several options from the extensive menu. Duck dumplings with a delicious soy and hot mustard dipping sauce. Pork gyoza dumplings were pan fried and delightful. The vegetable tempura is how we were meant to eat our veggies! We indulged in the ginger pork belly that was tantalizing on the tongue. The only item that was slightly off was the duck main. It came out medium with a nice sweet sauce but the skin could have been crispier.
But overall, great dishes and great service. I would recommend and I look forward to going back soon. Enjoy!

The menu was so interesting to read that I struggled in deciding what to order.
The food was fresh and delicious, staff helpful and friendly though some language difficulties and I need to practise my chopstick skills.
Fantastic view of hauraki gulf across to Rangitoto island.

Welcoming staff and great service through the evening. Our group of 5 chose the Tokyo Street Food fixed price option which works well with lots of variety and tasty dishes! Desert not required! Good selection of beers and wines.Pleasant atmosphere on a wintry night with handy parking.

Our second visit and expectations were high. I found myself a little disappointed this time. The yam wraps were good but I found the sauces that came with the seafood teppan-yaki all too salty. Also, for the amount of seafood on the plate, $32 was very expensive. Still, the dinner boxes were good and the choices for the vegan in our group were great.
Worth a visit.

Dined at this restaurant for last Saturday lunch and the place never disappointed me. Located at a nice spot where I can enjoy the great view of Takapuna beach. Superbly delicious food at there, the sushi nigiri is just as authentically good as the ones in Japan, which is very rare to be found in NZ. The bento box selection includes numerous different types of dishes and all of them are well cooked. The service quality is definitely top-notch as all servers and the owner are incredibly friendly and well-trained. Definitely a good place for both casual dining and special occasion. Well enough for going back again.

Invited a friend for dinner and we had dinner boxes, him “blue water” with seafood, me “grilled..” with fish, all kinds of meat.... The food was delicious and I could see he enjoyed it very much... The atmosphere was nice and refined. You can be sure that your guests will be happy here. A good place to celebrate Friday night!

My wife and I were given a gift voucher for Christmas and visited Tokyo Bay in the New Year. WOW! It just felt like being back in Tokyo; small bustling and noisy (not too loud though) restaurant in Takapuna facing the water. We were well looked after by the staff from the time we entered and it was just a fantastic evening. The food is outstanding and although a little on the expensive side it is well worth it. So much of the evening reminded me of the time I lived in Tokyo and it was great. Close your eyes and you could transport yourself there (except for all the English conversation!). I had the seared tuna entree and Diamond Bento and it was delicious. The prawns in the bento were superb and certainly the jewel in the box for me. Also on of the best selection of sake I have seen for a while and the can help if you are not too sure. Certainly a place to revisit and it is now our favourite Japanese Restaurant on the Shore if not Auckland. Relaxed atmosphere and great dining. Domo arigato gozaimushita.

Fantastic food and service. Highly recommend The food is always so tasty. Our 20 month old son was really welcomed well looked after and they made it really easy to eat with a toddler there.

Having dined at several Japanese restaurants around Auckland and enjoyed the food, we decided to visit Tokyo Bay for my wife's birthday. We ordered Eggplant Miso-Yaki to start. We found it to be very salty. For mains, we ordered The Grill Dinner Box which was $35 each. The food was tastless and the beef very tough for scotch beef. We were very disappointed . The service was good although we had trouble getting the waitress's attention for a question. We will not be going back to this Japanese restaurant again.

My wife and I have been going to Tokyo Bay since it opened several year ago, and the experience just keeps getting better and better.
The staff are exceptional and the food even better!
It was my wife's birthday last night and the staff made her feel special, with a free tasting plate from the head chef, which was fantastic.
If you would like an exceptional dinner served by amazing staff go to Tokyo Bay.

We have been wanting to try this restaurant for ages and WOW it did not disappoint, everything from the moment we got there was perfect. Greeting kindly and shown to an upstairs table which overlooked the water, we were served with sparkling and still water immediately. The menu has a huge variety, everything we ordered was stunning, light and fresh and tasted beautiful. The eggplant dish was one of the nicest dishes I have ever tried. We can’t wait to go back here with friends and family! Thank you for such an amazing experience!

My husband travelled to Japan for many years and always raved about the cuisine there. We visited Tokyo on our friends recommendation and wow it was superb. The staff, food and atmosphere are very, very similar to Japan and it is hard to get that originality anywhere outside of Japan. We went for our wedding anniversary but certainly won’t be waiting for our next one to return! Absolutely superb.
