After being disappointed by most of the restaurants we've tried in Eastbourne and the surrounding area, a visit to The Curlew in Bodiam restored our faith in there being at least one restaurant worth visiting when in need of a special place to dine. The restaurant is elegant, whilst being quite casual, and the food is simply divine and very... More

We dined at The Curlew with friends on Saturday evening and despite being the first weekend of the year, the restaurant was surprisingly busy. We were met with a warm welcome and invited to take drinks in the cosy reception while we looked at the menu. After making our choices and some time to catch up with our friends, we... More

What's happened to The Curlew? From being our favourite restaurant with consistently excellent meals, it seems to have gone down rather quickly. I feel quite bereft. Timings all wrong. My food was cold. My husbands plate of beef looked like a starter portion and our guests pork belly was particularly fatty with very little meat. Even the usual delicious petit... More

My husband booked for a New Year's Eve meal with friends here. The advertisement all sounded very nice: a 5 course taster menu. They requested a 50 % deposit when booking on a set meal costingt £316 for 4 people. We risked life and limb in the fog getting to the restaurant, to be met and greeted with very little... More

Six of us ate here last night and had a superb evening with good prompt service from helpful and friendly staff. The food, I have to say, fell just a little short of what I was expecting. As is often the case I found the starters were the star of the show, we all enjoyed them very much. My son... More

I agree with a couple of the recent comments. Somehow, the Curlew has lost it. At these prices one expects more than merely average. It used to be outstanding. Now it is bland.

The Curlew has been fantastic over the last few years. We have made many visits and thoroughly enjoyed some great meals. It was with sadness we left this week after a very poor lunch. A new chef has started recently and we could not compare the food to past visits. Starters were either huge or minuscule , and flavours lacking.... More

We had pre-booked and we went on a very quiet Tuesday in late November, frosty sunny day. The Curlew looked its best, and we were shown into the bar where we had one Bellini (I was driving) and some tasty canapes to go with it. My only quibbles there? Well, the a la carte menu appeared hot from the printer,... More

Description
In a previous life, The Curlew Restaurant at Bodiam,
East Sussex was a Coaching Inn where travellers rested their weary, moustachioed heads and warmed their spirits while on rain-sodden route from Hastings to London.

But now, Mark and Sara Colley have given The Curlew another life.

Just an errant arrow flight from Hastings, stone skim from Bodiam Castle, mince from Brighton, manicured lawn from Tunbridge Wells, The Curlew is a place where formal food meets informal dining, where the city and country brush shoulders, style meets stile.

Modern British dining for the Modern British diner.

The Curlew has held a Michelin Star since 2011.
