We had pre-booked and we went on a very quiet Tuesday in late November, frosty sunny day. The Curlew looked its best, and we were shown into the bar where we had one Bellini (I was driving) and some tasty canapes to go with it. My only quibbles there? Well, the a la carte menu appeared hot from the printer,... More

This was our third visit to the Curlew and also very likely to be our last. The restaurant looks the part. It's very welcoming with a lovely open fire and comfortable chairs for a pre dinner cocktail. We were seated promptly. I had the souffle for starters which was very nice. My wife had the duck egg which was cold.... More

The service here had let this restaurant down for us in the past but no problems at our next attempt. The menu was balanced and varied and everything we had was beautifully cooked. The fish and meat is clearly well sourced and puddings creative and delicious. The tables can feel a little close together in some areas but the overall... More

We regularly use the Curlew when looking to have a special meal and have not been disappointed at any time. This occasion was my wifes birthday and all main dishes, lamb, pork and rabbit were excellent. Service is good and surroundings pleasant.

Loved celebrating here. The food was outstanding, the price was reasonable for what it was and the service was polite and friendly without being fusty. The cheeseboard was the best I've had - all local produce. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Booked a table for a late lunch here. Stunning interior and a great and unusual menu. Good to see lots of locally sourced food and wine. The menu is upmarket, not really for the steak and chips crowd which we liked. We opted for a local red wine which was stunning. On par food wise with the wild mushroom in... More

After reading positive reviews about Curlew we decided to try it out for a Saturday lunch. Delighted to report that we were not disappointed. For starters my wife had the cheese soufflé and I the pigeon. Both courses were excellent. We both then had the Kent lamb which was beautifully cooked. We then finished with the salted caramel tart which... More

We first visited the Curlew some four years ago. Since then we have been regular (a couple of times a year!) visitors. The meal we had on Sunday was one of the best meals we have had. Amazing flavours, presentation, and textures. This is food served with such flare and imagination its hard to believe that the restaurant is rammed... More

Firstly, all I can say is WOW! :) I lucked out on this place by searching google for the local area for a decent restaurant whilst staying in Sedlescombe. It was relatively difficult to find (in the dark) ;) but actually in the morning, I discovered it was on a main road with great access and just that my GPS... More

We met up with good friends at this lovely restaurant and what a fab evening we all had. The waitress who brought the menus also provided the tasting menu which consisted of 6 courses so we all decided to give it a go We weren't disappointed every course was superb and made us try dishes we wouldn't have normally ordered... Description
In a previous life, The Curlew Restaurant at Bodiam,
East Sussex was a Coaching Inn where travellers rested their weary, moustachioed heads and warmed their spirits while on rain-sodden route from Hastings to London.

But now, Mark and Sara Colley have given The Curlew another life.

Just an errant arrow flight from Hastings, stone skim from Bodiam Castle, mince from Brighton, manicured lawn from Tunbridge Wells, The Curlew is a place where formal food meets informal dining, where the city and country brush shoulders, style meets stile.

Modern British dining for the Modern British diner.

The Curlew has held a Michelin Star since 2011.
