About
Coburg's Post Office Hotel mixes the old with the new. A renovation in 2010 restored much of the old girl's original art deco features, breathing new life into the hotel. The team behind the bar provide an old fashioned warmth and hospitality and, with a background in music, ensure classic tunes are always part of the equation, from rocking live bands to a soundtrack of soul, rock and country vinyl. Take in the live music in the spacious front bar on Thursday, Friday, Saturday evenings, while on Sundays bring the family for a relaxed weekly-changing winter roast or summer barbecue while checking out the afternoon band. Next door to the pub, at 229 Sydney Road, is the POH's newest addition, the Dining Hall. The large space has been given a modern makeover with exposed brick walls, fire place, hanging pendant lights and recycled timber tables. There's al fresco seating on the back deck, several banquet tables perfect for groups, plus intimate booths with leather banquettes.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

The venue was very clean but there is nothing attractive about the basic decor or bare wooden table tops. The food was generally OK however those who had fish got the smallest size imaginable for the price charged. I was hoping for a roast but there was none. Our booking was for Noon on a Sunday however it wasn't open on time and they were obviously not ready to start serving meals for a while.

Four of us had lunch, all very hungry. Three had the fish n chips, and while the serving size was adequate, it was not generous for the price charged. Two said it was ok, the third person was still hungry. The fourth order was a special of the day, Gnocchi with seasonal veg, spinach and cheese. What was actually delivered was an entree size bowl of gnocchi which about five pieces of diced carrot (obviously frozen), tasted like canned sauce and three spinach leaves thrown on top, not overly warm either. The meals here are not cheap for what is delivered. Would not recommend or return.

The Post Office Hotel is a down-home hotel that serves good meals and cold beer. The dining room is quite extensive, and the meals are popular with the locals. The beer is good, and there's a variety on tap. There's a trivia night every week, and regular live music. The Post Office Hotel appeals to the regulars who live around or near Sydney Road.

Have been a patron of The Post Office for years. Unfortunately I have seen a steady decline over recent times. What used to be a family friendly, local with good food and live music, has now (since the refurbishment last year) become overpriced and underwhelming. The manager and bar staff seem to change weekly, not a good sign. The food is average at best, the menu hasn't changed for ages and is limited. The portions are small (except for the parma) but you're paying top prices.. Last week, despite the table service, we had to order and prepay for food and drinks on a mobile phone app. For which there was a surcharge applied ! It's a shame because I used to love the place but somehow it's really lost it's way. I would advise anyone to give The Woodlands Hotel a go instead.

Delicious!!!!!! Pizza was so, so good as was my accompanying garden salad. I’m a vegetarian but the meat eaters loved their steaks. Desserts were so good. The staff were so very friendly and accommodating to our large group. A fun enjoyable night had by all.

I came for a Saturday lunch and was impressed by how the bar had become more comfortable since I was here last. The staff were full of smiles, friendly and helpful, and the food menu was interesting. I chose a local beer (Son of a Gun IPA) and had the Vegetarian Pasta (Spaghetti with a creamy sauce of peas, mushrooms, sun dried tomato). The spaghetti was delicious and the beer had a strong bitter taste. Both were great value for money.

We came here for dinner and found that they had traditional pub food, and much more. It is divided into three areas, a large bar area, a dining room, and an outdoor section under umbrellas. I think the outdoor area is quieter, but we had booked the dining room. Conversation was not easy. The food and prices are the same everywhere. I ordered the daily special of vegetarian rigatoni. this came with basil pesto, red peppers, spinach, kale, and chilies. There are some internal steps and ramps, so watch your feet.

Food is rubbish. Went with friends. Hadn’t been before. Nice place and appeared to be refurbished. Very welcoming atmosphere and excellent service. However, really disappointing meals. There were 5 different orders in our group and not one was good. All just ordinary rubbish. If you’re looking for a drink catch-up it’s good, but don’t go for the food.

Great vibe, food was pretty yummy, took a while to come out and my toddlers meal came out last which is the opposite of what you want with a hungry bub. But delicious so worth the wait in the end

I had to walk down the side street, turn into the rear lane, and enter via the back gate. Darned Covid restrictions. The staff were great and made me feel welcome (I think I was their only customer for a Monday lunch). I was brought water with my menu and made myself comfortable in the cool while waiting for my vegie burger. This was interesting as well as delicious. The pattie was beetroot and pea, with cheese, lettuce, caramelised onion, mustard and pickles. The chips were really good, too.

Best thing about thus pub is the beers, wines and live entertainment. The food whilst not bad was also not good, just a run of the mill pub meal.
