In Chateaubriant I could imagine myself being in a French café boulangerie while we enjoyed delicious baquette sandwiches and coffee.The ambiance and service are adding to the delights. Distance from home prevents us from being regulars...... but will certainly be back again when visiting Devonport.

I have come here multiple times for Breakfast, Coffee, Lunch & Work Meetings. You walk into the cafe and everything is so clean and tidy, and I love the rustic look of the place.
Alan and his staff are very friendly and so funny (and the honestly make the Best Coffee in the area!!). From the Gluten Free Chocolate Fondant to the famous Galette - I have always been so happy with my food - everything I have eaten there has been so full of flavour and delicious as well as great portion sizes... THE AMBIANCE IS OUTSTANDING

I was amazed to see a French bakery deli cafe here as I walked from the bus on a rainy morning. I went inside to see interesting breads and tables to spare, so I selected a coffee and asked for a vegetarian roll. The prices and quality were both premium, but I was happy

I request for a couple of almond croissants for dine-in and then decide to order a couple of chocolate eclairs. Allen the man taking the order was so angry as I didn't order both at the same time. So I said why are you upset and grumpy, he looked me in the eye and said I don't want to serve you as find me grumpy go away and took the food back. I have never experienced this in my life. He was so rude that made me so upset as I didn't mean any harm. Never again to that restaurant.

We visit Chateaubriand every morning for coffee and often during the day as food is delicious. Service always fantastic! Highly recommended (which I do often and we always arrange to meet friends there). Authentically French.

This review is to warn others who might also travel 40mins across Auckland as we did, only to find the cafe had closed early. I have emailed twice to ask if there was a reason for the early closure, but have not received any response.
I had telephoned before leaving home to ask about indoor seating (yes, there is) and table bookings (no, they don't reserve tables), and no mention was made about closing earlier than the stated 2.30pm on their website. When we arrived just before 1pm, I was astounded to find the door locked and the staff packing up inside!

Went to this we cafe on recommendation.
The coffee was lovely as we're the French pastries.
I was a little disappointed ( hence the average rating ) as I wanted one of their lovely looking pies to enjoy with my pastry. I was informed that I could not eat the pie there despite already being seated and enjoying my coffee.
I asked if they could put it on a plate for me so I could have it with my coffee. They again said pies were not to be eaten at the Cafe and we're only to be taken away as the sign stated. Strange.

Unfortunately had a very unplesant experience at Châteaubriant, a café in Devonport.
Unbelievable. Drove all the way from other side of town. Waste of time. Took 30 mins for a disappointing crêpe in thé end, to arrive. Nothing spécial. Thought to ask within 15 mins but thought to wait. Théy clearly forgot to place thé order and have thé gall to say it was given to someone else in error. There was hardly anyone there! Good thing is thé location....where it CANNOT bé seen. Get it?! Thé worst French café in Auckland and yes, I have been to all!!!
I did message privately of course via thé gram but got blocked. Extremely immature. Thé owner even looks immature and a bit bête so what can one expect!
Not how you do business in NZ. Will not suceed if you don't own up to your faults. Do yourself a favour peeps and go elsewhere!

Terrible service! The owner and staff are extremely rude. As a Devonport local I have defended their “quirky” ways for years. But after another extremely poor experience today, no more! Well done Chateau Briandt team… youve just lost another customer.
There are plenty of other places to go in Devonport that understand the meaning of service. Avoid at all costs!

Went to the cafe and got abused by the manager because he couldn’t understand my English. As I left he started booing me to leave. Such a bad vibe from the manager!!!
I was having such a bad day and this made it so much worse!!! This is not how a cafe is suppose to be run!

It used to be our number one coffee place in Devonport. Sadly the new manager’s attitude is far from being nice. He is not only unfriendly, but arrogant and rude. For us it is certainly a thing of the past.

Pleasant if somewhat small, but basically not by any means "bad" premises. Good choice of food, but when we asked for a simple "cheese only" - toastie, instead of cheese and ham ( due to dietary restrictions) the proprietor dismissed the request without hesitation. We were obliged to order another of the "available items" ... only to see the cook bring out a fresh batch of cooking about ten to fifteen minutes later.

This a great spot in Devonport for a cafe break or lunch. I highly recommend Chateaubriant and its lasagna :)

After visiting Mount Victoria, we went searching for lunch at Chateaubriant. It is a bit of a walk but we enjoyed the atmosphere, the coffees, the quiche, and the vegetarian sandwich. Fresh and popular with the locals.

Stopped for a snack after walking up Mount Victoria on a beautifully sunny morning. Busy little French cafe with both self serve items and made fresh to order baguette sandwiches. Almond croissant was excellent but perhaps even better was the pain du chocolat! Reminded us of the pastry in Paris for sure! Tea Total teas, Earl Grey was fantastic. Nice interior and French music playing over speakers. Will be back next time we’re in Devonport.
