We had advice this was the best restaurant in Culburra Beach and I absolutely think it could be.
We entered at 130pm on a lovely sunny day with tables outside available, unfortunately we weren't asked if we wanted to sit outside on arrival but were taken to a table inside a darker room around the back.
We ordered our lunch and waited a while for the drinks but that was fine. Our waitress was the teenage daughter of the owner who was lovely and had fabulous advice on the menu.
We ordered chips as a side dish to the main, but these came out before our drinks delivered by the owners very young son. We didn't know what to do, but we had to say to him that we ordered them for a side with the main course and could they be kept warm. We hoped this didn't cause offence, but we wanted the chips with our mains not pre entree.
Our pre lunch drinks came and went pretty quickly, Our entrees came and they were ok, we were still waiting a while to be able to order our pinot, and were unable to until we were part way through our mains.
Our mains came out different to others and unfortunately looked like they had been sitting under the warmer for a little too long. I ordered the pork belly and my wife the barramundi, the pork came out black on top and dry, and my wifes fish was also overcooked.
New chips returned to the table but were covered in black pepper - which thankfully we like! During our meal a huntsman spider popped down from the rafters. Our youngest daughter is pretty scared of spiders and screamed. I took off my shoe and squashed it before it disturbed another diner.
We informed out waitress who dismissed the incident due to us sitting in the shed area.
Bemused, we were accepted this laid back response and then our daughter had some pudding (we had affrogato) which was excellent. we paid the bill at circa $90 a head and left.
All in all we had a pretty fun / entertaining lunch, I would have loved to be offered a seat outside on arrival. And I probably should have mentioned the pork and fish but after the chips and spider we thought we leave without further incident.
This restaurant has all the hall marks of being fantastic, at this price, I just hope that more attention in future is paid the guests and to ensure dishes are sent out in a consistent manner.

I know it’s been a tough few months for restaurants but I do think when you’re paying top dollar for food it should be worth it. We went yesterday for lunch here, they were busy but not full. Service was average, very young kids serving and they seemed bored & disinterested. We spent the whole time trying to get attention for everything we needed, even cutlery. The wine waiter knew nothing about wine at all. The food was over cooked. The lightly steamed greens were nuked, the squid ink pasta was runny and tasteless. Sorry I can’t rave about the place ..

Delightful place for lunch. The Butter factory was in operation over 100 years ago. The building has been converted into a restaurant. It specialist in a small menu with fresh ingredients. The dining room overlooks a dairy farm and we watched about 400 cows grazing and then being herded into the milking shed. The dining room had a patio with tables outside as well. The free range hens wandered by about 1:00pm, I guess heading to the kitchen for scraps. 3 of the diners’ children went outside to meet the hens. The reasonably priced menu featured fresh fish, duck. We enjoyed grilled snapper fillets with handmade chips cooked in duck fat and served with fresh green salad. For dessert I enjoyed lemon panna cotta with sliced strawberries and mascarpone cream. It was superb. We went there for lunch twice in the same week. It was great to get gluten free food in such a charming location.

The menu at The Butter Factory has clearly not changed for 15 years, it is very dated. We ordered warily and thought we had played it safe, however, the meat was overcooked, meals were cold, poorly presented and lacked basic seasoning. The day before we ate beachside takeaway, the fish was better cooked there than anything we had at the butter factory. The best thing we had at The Butter Factory was the bowl of chips which is definitely not what should be expected at a restaurant claiming to be fine dining. We were offered fresh meals to compensate for our disappointment but having waited over an hour already we were happy to accept a discount instead. The staff were clearly run off their feet, so much so that tables were being attended to by a young child which again didn’t give the impression of fine dining or a restaurant with such an overpriced menu. Won’t be going out of our way again which is a shame considering the beautiful location and potential for this restaurant to showcase amazing local produce and wine.

We were met with all the Covid 19 protocols. Table at window with lovely garden view, We decided to have the $25 lunch special. The included a glass of wine which made for a pleasant start with our order taken quickly. As my husband has end stage renal failure it is recommended he not eat potatoes. So as the snapper came with salad and fish we asked for a few chips and more salad. The waiter agreed to do this. When our meals arrived they were 3/4 chips and a small amount of salad. My deep fried fish was moist, flaky and delicious but my husbands grilled fish was as firm as rubber, it was inedible. When we told them they brought him another piece of fish. It was just OK. We told the manager about the solid fish and her comment was "you cannot please everyone:" My return comment was that nobody would be pleased with inedible fish. She repeated "you cannot please everyone". I told her that was no answer for a totally unacceptable inedible product. They offered us a free coffee which we took but we would never recommend the cafe to anyone else.

After filling out the covid protocol's we sat down at a table with a beautiful view of the gardens. My partner and I both commented what a wonderful place it was. Unfortunately the food didn't match the surroundings. We ordered butter Factory chips as starters and where dissapointed to find they were just oven fries. We order our mains, which were decent enough but we sat there 5 or so minutes waiting for our cutlery to arrive. Although the resturant was busy the service was very poor an extra member of staff could have worked wonders.

We ate barramundi and chicken for dinner. I have never seen, such a small piece of fish that cost $33. Fish had old oil taste , lettuce was not fresh, lemon was not included.
Meals were served by a kid wearing an apron, but his thumbs extended onto the plates.
In a COVID world, that's a no-no!

Disappointed with the service and staff attitude. Fine dining price with cafe quality service. Appetiser and entree dumped on the table at the same time. When we asked why we were told "we have a lot of bookings(so the kitchen could not run the food orders properly) " and "you asked to move outside". We felt that we had been told it was our fault and we should get on with eating because they " have bookings". Totally ruined the whole meal. I ordered lamb and it came out cold and overcooked, like something you get from Coles. Was looking forward to splashing out and having a nice relaxed meal. Very very disappointed. It is overrated. Look elsewhere if you want to have a good dining experience.

We booked this dinner for our 25th wedding anniversary small celebration. When making the online booking it asked if we were celebrating anything. I have no idea why this is asked as the restaurant does not seem to take any notice of this. Our party of 7 arrived to a very cool welcome. We were gruffly given all the covid instructions which we followed and then led to our table. It is a gorgeous old building and the atmosphere is very pleasant but the staff seemed like we were a burden and we were beneath them. When ordering drinks we also asked if we could have some glasses of cold water. Our drinks arrived but no cold water came. After 30 min and asking twice more we were finally given a small pitcher that only filled all our glasses 1/2 full. While we would have liked more water we knew it was a waste of time asking for more so went without. The one waitress who took our meal orders was the only pleasant smile we encountered the entire evening. A small boy of about 10 or 11 was working as a waiter delivery meals. He looked miserable and stressed. When our meals arrived they were a great disappointment. The butter-factory presents itself as fine dining. This was anything but. The chicken was dry and tasteless. It desperately needed some type of sauce. The steak marginally better in flavour, For the prices they were charging this food was dismal. We were so disappointed with both the food and the service we did not stay for desserts or coffee but left as quickly as we could. I would not recommend this place to anyone and we will never return.

We spotted this restaurant whilst driving down to Greenwell Point, then looked it up online and promptly made a booking. The Butter Factory Restaurant in Pyree was once an actual butter factory in the 19th century and was Shoalhaven’s first and at that time NSW’s largest.
The restaurant doesn’t look anything like a butter factory today, but it has retained old worldly charm and they have some photos of what it once looked like. It still has old school character with its heritage look. It feels a little plain, with hardly any decor or art and we think it could be enhanced with some vintage prints of its historic past or dairy memorabilia. The tables look out onto the beautiful property so you do get a nice country feel. Staff are welcoming and friendly and seat us immediately at the table.
We ate there for lunch and the venue offers some great $25 lunch specials. The seafood tasting plate for 1 was outstanding! A beautifully presented plate of grilled seafood
including fresh prawns, scallops, Mussel & Squid. High quality, healthy and just the right thing for a light lunch.
We also tried the seared scallops, which were perfectly cooked, served on a cauliflower puree, topped with a Chorizo Crumb, Chives & Buerre Noisette. To complement the meal, we order some lovely house made bread, served with olive oil and dukkah, as well as a generous serving of seasonal greens with a drizzle of olive oil.
There’s so many meals we’d happily order and hope to return sometime to try more. If you’ve got kids, be sure to take them, for the kids menu is great. They are served with a Green Leaf Garnish, Hot Chips & Tomato Sauce or Steamed Vegetables, Sauté Potato & Jus. Each meal comes with a zooper dooper for just $15.50.
Although we don’t drink this day, the venue is fully licensed. You can also have parties and events there with catering, including weddings. See their website for details.
Make it on your destination list for an enjoyable lunch.

Very disappointed with our Sunday lunch at the Butter Factory. Service was ok, no offer of water, no place setting on the table, we had the mezze board to start and it was terrible. Fresh bread wasnt nice, olives had a strange taste, very small amount of food on the board, not worth $23. Fish sharing plate arrived and we had no plates. Not enough staff to cope with quantity of people dining in, had to get up to find someone to ask for plates. The cooked fish was salty and not hot and yet the fresh prawns were not cold. No one came to check on meal, ask if we wanted additional drinks, we ended up paying and leaving. Go to the Blue Swimmer in Gerroa, much better experience.

Visiting the south coast for the weekend to celebrate my friends birthday. Very disappointed in The Butter Factory. From our arrival to the end of our night, the staff were rude and un attentive. We ordered drinks and bread to start, the bread arrived and no drinks for 30 minutes until my husband had to chase them up. We ordered Moët and the glasses and bottle just left on the table for us to pour ourselves. Our food was literally dumped in front of us. There was no service , no pleasantries, in fact we felt like an inconvenience. Would not recommend to any of my family or friends

Having been to this restaurant on several occasions, I was happy to be going again. However I was very disappointed in my experience where I felt unvalued and underwhelmed. My food was ok, however the service was very slow, inattentive and we had to ask for cutlery, napkins get our own wine from the bar.
There wasn’t the same friendly vibe which is a real shame

My partner and I had dinner here two nights in a row and it was amazing. I have allergies and intolerence but that was no issue for the Chief. Our waitress was lovely and nothing was a hassle. The seafood platter was delicious. Majority of the plate was fresh with a little batter on the chips and fish. My partner and I always hunt for great seafood platters and this was delicious (if you were really hungry you could eat one to yourself- the waitress also mentioned this which was great and not missleading) . Not to mention every meal we had was delicious. The atmosphere was beautiful, beautiful lights decorate with a stunning view out into country pasture. Will defiantly be back!

We had a fab dinner together with friends. The restaurant is in a great setting, easy to get to and you can park right next to the restaurant. Our dinner was good value for money, we had a seafood platter for 2 and the total price was very reasonable at $52. And even though the restaurant was quite busy at the time, the staff were very nice and helpful. I'll be back!
