Celebrating my parent’s 70th wedding anniversary and wanted to treat them to a special lobster dinner on our last night in Tahoe. Riva missed the desired experience on several levels. Attitude from a valet when we self parked in a near empty lot and didn’t choose to drive 50 more feet just so they could park our rental van again. They requested our keys anyway and I obliged only to return to our hotel afterward with my parent’s handicap placard missing. Although our reservation was made in advance, we explained it was for a special anniversary and wanted a view of the lake, we were seated downstairs in an empty room with little view of the lake. And between two open doors to the patio requiring us to wear our fleeces throughout our whole meal. Charged $8 a piece on two already $89 entrees just because we chose to share. With no heads up from the waiter AND after he offered to serve each entree on two plates! (Only 4 of us and we wanted an appetizer and a dessert too.) Ladies room looked like a fast food dive and to top it all off, after spending just over $300 for our evening, my sister spent the rest of her night in the bathroom. Fortunately the other 3 of us were fine. The lobster and our other dishes were delicious but....sadly, tainted by all of the above.

I've been to these types of places before. The restaurant is visually appealing, the menu looks interesting, the prices are high but it doesn't really deliver. We did come close to closing time so maybe that had something to do with it. It took a long time to get our bowls of soup (at least 12 or 13 minutes) and then, at least 35 or 40 minutes from the time we finished our soup until dinner came (and all during that time, no one came to take away the dirty dishes). The people seated next to us asked us how we like dinner and we said: "We haven't been served, yet". At one point, the server checked on the table next to us and I said cheerfully: "You haven't forgotten about us, have you?" and she said: "No, it should be ready shortly" (without really knowing). The soup was pretty good but the cashew-encrusted salmon was disappointing. Honestly, I cook frozen salmon from the supermarket that tastes better than this (and costs about $5 instead of $40) without it tasting so fishy. (I understand that there are different varieties of salmon but for $40, they can do a lot better). And, all the while, our server's mask kept slipping down below her nose. Come on, you're not sending people to the moon or curing cancer. Fix your mask! The only good news: there was no wait to be seated (whereas other places had waits of around an hour). That should have told me something!

We visited the Riva Grill three times in two weeks. It is our favorite spot to watch the water and people and have a few drinks and appetizers. Sipping Wet Woodies (alias frozen rum runners) and eating home made potato chips (I like to put malt vinegar on mine). We would go around 3 or 4 PM and stay for about two hours (we tip well so the wait staff didn't mind that we didn't eat dinner). On Wednesday's they discount Woodies drinks so make a reservation if you want to sit on the deck in a shaded spot. Like most restaurants - staffing is short handed but they were all polite and asked for patience especially around shift change which is normally when we went. It isn't inexpensive but food costs have increased dramatically over the last year so I didn't think it was out of line.

The prices were beyond outrageous from someone who lives in the bay area, the food was inedible. We had a sweet server who tried to speak to the manager who offered to comp one drink for meals left uneaten. I ordered the chicken sandwich figuring what can you do to ruin that. Answer, fry it beyond recognition with a hideous tasteless batter and make it so unappealing a racoon would turn it down. I have no idea why anyone would want to eat here. I have had far superior sandwiches at Popeyes. They finally comped my sandwich and the bill still came to 140$ without tip for 3 sandwiches and two drinks. How this rip off business stays in business is beyond me and the two others I dined with. Be warned. I foolishly ignored the truthful and horrible reviews. So glad I did not order the 47 dollar fish. Please be warned. Worst experience in Tahoe.

Ate here last night and was disappointed with the overall experience. We arrived around 5pm without having made any reservations which was fine, as the place was at 1/10 capacity. We opted to sit outside to better appreciate the view. The waitress was friendly. We ordered the shrimp/lobster bisque along with the tenderloin salad while my wife ordered the Thai chicken lettuce wrap. To wash it down we ordered a merlot and 2 beers. The food arrived and the bisque was syrup like in texture (bad) and had neither shrimp nor lobster. We couldn't finish it. The Thai wrap was good. The salad was good and astonishingly at $28 had no steak, but 3 measly slices of beef. While clearing our table, I asked the waitress to ask the manager to come to our table. The manager arrived and greeted us, I explained my experience with both the maple syrup "bisque" with neither shrimp nor lobster and the lack of steak in my salad. I told her that I've had excellent bisque from phuket to bordeaux and the bisque served to us on this night was sub-par. She apologized. I also asked why there wasn't a steak in the salad but merely slices of what 2oz? She replied that there was 3oz. She made no overture to correct my complaint. Comp me the bisque or the salad. You're at a restaurant charging prime prices, you would expect comparable service8 10 dollars max. What sub standard meal and substandard service. Cannot recommend.

I ate at the Riva Grill in August 2020. Although the prices are a little high the quality of the food was excellent. The establishment was clean and consideration was given to Covid requirements. The server was sweet and somewhat attentive but for the prices and decor I expected better service. Passing food over another person rather than walking around and placing it, pouring drink over food, or having to ask for more water were some of the things I felt that could have been better. I would still consider it on future visits to the area.

Beware! Prices have increased dramatically and food has not improved. Used to come here as a treat. Always a decent view and okay food and drinks. Prices are $25 for a pizza, but $40 for an entree. Their signature drink “wet woody” is $18!!!!! Glass of wine $12-20!!! Plenty of better options to choose from in south lake! Or go to the sister site at Garwoods for a $12 wet woody and a bit more reasonable pricing. Covid is no reason to gouge people. $40 stuffed lobster ravioli entree tasted fishy and super salty. Eat somewhere else!

We arrived without a reservation and we were made to know such by the hostess. She tells us to come back in five minutes as she was waiting on a server. No problem! We come back in six and we’re told that she just sat the server and to come back in 15-20 minutes. She only has two-tops. No thank you. You told us to come back in 5 minutes and we are here. Hostess then leaves to go find the server, so she says upon return. She then proceeds to talk about us in front of us. Tacky. Thankfully the server and the food overshadowed the rudeness and lack of training the hostess must’ve had. The server was kind and quick. Drinks never ran dry and food was out at a decent rate and hot. The garlic bread melted in our mouths The fish tacos were slamming with flavor. The fried chicken sandwich was stacked high, almost enough to share between two. The burger was cooked to perfection and juice dripped out. No complaints here on the food! Highly recommend based on the dishes we experienced. Can’t wait to try more.

My husband and I went last weekend for my bday. We made reservations as it was a Saturday night and they were quite busy. We had an 8:45pm reservation. We were greeted by a hostess and lead up the staircase to a table against the sliding glass door to a small balcony. There was a guy playing acoustic guitar and singing. Usually, I love any live music but it was a little bit loud since we were sat right next to the speaker. Still, he was good and we liked all of the songs he sang. Our waitress gave us good service and was very pleasant as well as helpful. We got the bacon wrapped around filet mignon medium rare with mashed potatoes and asparagus. All were cooked to perfection with great flavor. I wished it wasn't dark so I could see what I knew was an amazing view across the lake. The only thing I did not like were a few people getting up from tables to either go to the bathroom or leave who couldn't be bothered to follow safety rules and wear a mask. I didn't hear any staff gently reminding them either. One person actually said to her friend "hang on I just need to put my mask on" and her friend who was halfway across the room shouted out "you're only going outside to get in a truck". Yeah, put your mask on to be considerate of others that you are walking by eating! That was the only negative. The decor was comfortable and the interior looked like the outside which was that of a large lodge. Everything looked clean and maintained. Dessert was amazing with the Smores Creme Brulee. I was glad I had passed on a starter to fit that in! I would certainly recommend going. We will be returning and doing maybe lunch next time so we can look over the lake. Thank you for the great service and atmosphere.

Overpriced is the overriding issue here. I understand it’s Tahoe and the views are incredible but the prices are just too high. A Bud Light 12oz bottle is $8.50. No justification for getting over $200 for an $20 case. A 90% profit on cost is unacceptable to me. Food was very good as was the service but a $100 lunch for 2 with tip is just crazy. We each had one drink, 1 had soup and salad, other had a chicken sandwich. The view is incredible though of the docks and Lake Tahoe.

The food was excellent as was the service, and a beautiful view. The best home made potato chips we've ever had, we ordered them after seeing a basket go by to the table next door. The prices were unreasonable however. $5.50 for a diet coke? Probably would not go again. If you don't mind paying for the view, and the parking, it's a great place.

We were a group of 8 that visited Riva to celebrate my mom’s birthday while on our ski trip. I brought a cake from a local bakery to celebrate. Upon entering the restaurant we were informed there would be a “cake fee” of $5 per person. At first I thought it was a joke as I have never heard of this. Then once we were seated we were informed we couldn’t do separate checks. We were told that we could all use different cards to pay but would need to figure out each of our amounts and tell the server. While the drinks and food were good I don’t like to feel like I am being “nickeled and dimed” while dining in an upscale establishment. When we got the bill there was a $40 banquet charge to pay for the server to literally cut the cake that I brought. Seriously?

We search for "fine dining" restaurants in Lake Tahoe and reserved a table for a Fathers' Day dinner on 6/19/21. This is as far from fine dining as it gets; more like a loud sports bar. It took 1 hour and ten minutes for our food to arrive, and when it did, it was awful. At $50 per entrée, severely overcooked salmon and scallops and cold mash potatoes are unacceptable! My bill was $222.00 for dinner for 2 and this seemed like joke. The server did what she could to make our experience enjoyable. She was the only acceptable part of the experience. Will never eat there again and will share my thoughts with family and friends.

Sat outside on the patio on a Thursday afternoon, wasn’t that busy end of March. Drink selections are plentiful. There are a variety of “Woody” what they are known for, Rum drinks. My boyfriend ordered lobster 🦞 deviled eggs 🥚 the lobster was minimal. This was a nice wait spot with scenic views.

We stopped here on our way back to our hotel. My wife and I shared an order of fish tacos (which were excellent) and fish and chips (the fish was superbly battered and fried). The fries needed help. Our server, Sam, was very good and very attentive. The only reason I didn't give it 4-stars (fish was excellent) was because it was very expensive for food received (my wife had a mocktail for $9.75). Total bill before tip was over $61, which I find to be extravagant for two simple fish dishes for lunch. The view of the lake and the mountains was very pleasant.
