We stayed at Sumi for a week and enjoyed most of our meals in Tofo at the restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed the authentic Japanese cuisine and the cocktails made from fresh fruit. The service was exceptional and we really felt at home after being welcomed by the owners and their family. 10/10 would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Wow. You wouldn't expect a Japanese restaurant with such fine cuisine at this location. The food was delicious. The sushi was beautifully presented with the right additions.
The noodles had a great taste and the meat dish was cooked perfectly.
The portions could be a little larger and the waiter was not the friendliest, but still a 10 out of 10 for this experience.

Sumi is a great restaurant addition to Tofo - it is stylish yet relaxed and has an extensive Japanese style menu including various sushi options, 'tapas' style small plates, larger dishes and ramen - all beautifully presented and tasting amazing. The crab salad and the asian style sticky ribs were a highlight. Also a nice choice of blues music, we also enjoyed live music on one evening and received great and friendly service from the staff. It's a popular place in a small town so I would recommend booking a table (even if just earlier on the same day) rather than just turning up to avoid disappointment.

We booked a table one Saturday for the next Monday. We did it personally at the restaurant with the staff there. I gave my number in the reservation. When we arrived to our dinner, the restaurant was closed and the only explanation was given by the guard, and it was the following: "today is the birthday of one of the owners and they have decided not to open". Totally regrettable.

Worst service ever, I went there expecting good vibes good food and great drinks as advertised however to my disappointment everything became a nightmare.
the waiters are disrespectful they don’t care about the clients, management is passive and also missed in action. We weren’t able even to be able to engage a waiter in order to be get a table. My honest recommendation is for management and staff to acknowledge that they exist because we (clients) exist.

Had a fantastic experience at Sumi in Inhambane-Tofo! The staff was friendly and helpful, and the food—no lie—was delicious. I had the fried California rolls, ribs, and three amazing watermelon mojitos. The atmosphere was peaceful and welcoming, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a great meal. Definitely worth a visit!

We visited this lovely restaurant on recommendation and went on a night they had live music. We thoroughly enjoyed it, the vibes and music was great. The food is absolutely phenomenal, it was so great we went twice in the same week! This is the reason the restaurant is always full so make sure to go early. We had their crispy prawn spring rolls, Kari Kari sushi (crispy fried crab sushi), spicy Asian buffalo wings, chicken teriyaki and teriyaki beef fillet of which everything was to die for! Even their creme brulee was the best one we've ever had. Definitely recommend you give them a try, well worth it!

We have been in this restaurant twice and first time was very good. We took some sushi and some other seafood, staff was nice and we sit on the roof terace. Second time we have totaly oposite experiance - food was not so good, waiter was strange and it seem he did not understand us, all took way too long. So the problem is not constant experiance…

This restuaraunt is very popular, so I would recommend to book.
All the staff were lovely, it's a little more upmarket than other restuaraunts around Tofo, but does come a little bit more expensive.
The food was good & fresh & a good choice of drinks.

Sumi is another hidden gem in the small town of Tofo, Inhambane (approx 7 hrs from Maputo). We try and go there at least twice when we visit. At the moment - they are openo Friday, Saturday and Sunday only - so ideally make a reservation as there as less tables (August 2020). So many fabulous things on the menu to try! Food is all prepared freshly as you wait - and you can really taste the freshness and feel the love that has gone into creating this haven!

My friend and I had a fantastic meal at Sumi. I really enjoyed the sushi rolls that I had, and my friend was pleased that there were several great vegan options for him. It's rare that we find a restaurant that we're both excited to come back to. The ambiance is great, and the owners are super friendly, too.

Great Japanese restaurant that serves very good homemade Ramen, good sushi and tasty rins. The crab-sallad is heavenly.
Atmosphere is cozy elegant, prices are a bit higher than other restaurants in tofo but the quality is higher too.
Service is good. I had a bit of an issue w my credit card payment but this was resolved by the manager.
Highly recommend it.

What a fantastic culinary experience! Thanks to a recommendation we had dinner at this lovely Japanese restaurant. The atmosphere was inviting, intimate, calm and trendy. The waiters were very friendly and with a good knowledge of the menu. The food... heavenly! We are vegans and had: vegetarian spring rolls ( the best I ever tasted in 4 continents!) a dish of dumplings filled with spinach and tofu ( super delicious and cooked to perfection) and another dish consisting of stir fried noodles, mix vegetables and tofu ( delicious).
If you go to Tofo, you MUST eat at Sumi. 😉
We will come back very very soon!

This restaurant serves authentic Japanese food and it a real relief, after the limited menu of Mozambican or South African restaurants. If you do not like raw fish, there are plenty of other dishes at the menu. I can highly recommend this place. It is advisable to make a reservation, because there are only a few tables.

The food here was amazing. We were a pretty large group and the staff were so accommodating to us even though we arrived so close to the kitchen closing. The food was so good- the cooked food and the sushi. Their drinks were so good as well.
